*Official* West Indies in New Zealand - Nov/Dec 2020

It really helps us develop an informed view on whether someone is ready for tests (in theory anyway). Really good that fans are respected in NZ.
Our live stream is decent nowadays but there is no ball by ball or anything like that.

Incidentally, does anyone know which channel is carrying the series in the UK? Can;t find anything on the listings.

Just looked at some 2018 U19 World Cup videos to see if the $640,000 spent in Queenstown in 2017 made it a slightly faster and more North Island-style venue. It's still listed as a Kakanui clay surface (that's the slowest used in NZ first-class play) over a browns clay base (probably something to seek a bit more speed and carry).

Really good sun and barely any rain the last 15 days, so maybe if the West Indies are super rusty as you'd expect them to be, Sears could actually crank it up and succeed with a short-pitched barrage.

Also keep in mind that many of our test team are pants against the short ball. Braithwaite has improved against it but is still occasionally susceptible, Chase is definitely dodgy against it at the start of his innings and Dowrich is borderline useless against it now that he has put away the hook and pull.

Only Campbell and Holder are batsman I would describe as good against the short ball in a 'take it on and usually score lots of runs against it' way. Not that it matters with Campbell because he has usually got himself out before then anyway.

I imagine it actually costs a ****load and is realistically only used by coaches and this forum. The fact that it exists at all as a public service really baffles me.

I love it though.
There’s a good solid bunch on twitter who use it as well, don’t think most of them are on here, unless it’s all different usernames.

NV Play so far has collated:
24,069 matches scored
7723 teams participated
83,397 players played
11,000,000 balls scored
2,400,000 of these with full video (22 per cent)
21TB of video generated

This equates to:
18,900 hours or 2 years 2 months of continuous video.

NZ Squads announced. Happy to see the mix of players there for the T20s, particularly the return of Phillips and Neesham and our first look at Conway the international. Glad to see Bennett keeping his place too. On the minus side, not sure Southee should be anywhere near a T20 squad let alone captaining it but oh well. Also possibly a bit harsh on Munro as he is still a gun T20 player - his absence for this season means we might be seeing the end of him in NZ colours.

No surprises with regards to the test squad, I suppose it’s a good problem to have when you wonder about the opportunity cost of not picking the guy who is dominating the Shield (Conway).

Can't complain about the selections at all... Phillips, Conway, Bennett, Neesham in the mix is the way to go. Southee there only because Boult can't I suppose. Can't fault that, need some experienced players around. Also good to see Chapman named for the last game. The guy is batting so well and need to be in when he's in form.

Munro chose not to play I think, he's got a gig in BBL. I think he's done with the Black Caps.

Devon should be in the test squad as well but obviously not sure at whose cost. He'll get there, only a matter of time.

Yeah those two pieces of news leave a bad taste. Keeping Southee in there is going to do nothing but hold back younger more deserving guys like a Tickner or Kuggelejin. I seriously hope they aren't actually planning on taking southee to the T20 world cups. He will get destroyed in India and Australia with batters coming at him. And we all know how good he is at super overs since last October to now. The nepotism with Southee is one of the most disappointing stories in the last 5 years. He definitely has pictures of D White doing some Jeff Epstein s***. I'm shocked Southee's persisted run of failures isn't talked up more often. Instead, he's awarded with leadership roles.

And Munro is our best T20 batter, he needs to be involved in both upcoming world cups. I'm guessing NZC's plan is to let him play BBL to get familiar to Aus pitches instead of playing another "been here done that" season on NZ grounds.

Southee will feature for the next 4-5 years in all formats don't worry about that. So will CDG. I know CDG is a bit of a cult figure but I can barely ever remember him scoring any runs. Anytime I see him bat, he's out slogging. Can't remember when he last scored a fifty let alone come close to a hundred. His bowling is all right though but with Jamieson around is he really needed for batting. Jamieson can probably bat as good if not look as good with the bat. CDG will continue to play few more years.

Keen to see Conway, even if it's only T20 initially.

Chapman has earned his second chance too - overawed the first time he played for NZ, this time has to do a lot better.

Interesting Ajaz Patel made the test squad despite being injured and not playing a game yet this season. A pre-emptive decision that the spinner sits on the bench anyway so why even bother picking someone fit?

When you say you can't remember the last time CDG made a 50 are you just referring to t20I's or all formats? He made a match-saving 60* vs India in his second-last ODI appearance.

That test squad is very very strong. Should beat us comfortably.

Shoe is on the other foot with the T20s though, I think we should really be winning those matches looking at that squad.

He probably did once or twice but whenever I've seen him bat he gets out slogging. I know he had a very good home season with the bat couple of years ago but generally I haven't rated his batting much in white ball cricket. Looks very accomplished player but then temperament is questionable.

I think CDG definitely deserves his place. He's dependable asf in the field and with the ball. Comes off good with the bat too sometimes. Its Southee who I question. I know there's no ODI's to be had but Nicholls, Latham, Taylor and KW are all cut from the same cloth as being the nitty gritty accumulator types. Good long term prospect or do we need more #intent in there for the ODI setup? Perhaps a bit of Tim Seifert or Glen Phillips? I know Seifert's List A record is trash though, lol.

Why wasn't Tickner picked for the T20's? Is he injured? He needs to be persisted with. Gun T20 record in domestics.

Definitely deserves a go over kugz, whose only contribution to the team is the ability to bowl 1 or 2 145+ kmh balls a game.

Bit Harsh, Kuggs had a fantastic CPL. Tickner should replace Southee. Also, is Bennett seen as a long term option within the camp? Like is he someone who will make it to both T20 WC's? He's lost a yard or two of pace and isn't getting any younger.

James Franklin used to have a few fantastic CPLs as well. But he wasn't giving anyone any titillation on the speed gun at the time, so you wouldn't have been as keen on using it to bolster any pro-Franklin argument.

yea people need to accept the standard of international, full strength t20 is light years ahead of any cheque cashing league like even the ipl.

so many dominant franchise players get owned in t20 wcs.
