Why not Vettori? He took a 5-fer recently.
Until the last couple of days, it had been assumed that Vettori had ruled himself out of the WI series. He'd gone on the record supporting Sodhi's selection for the tests. I think the selectors are really keen to bring him in though, and his form is pretty good as you say, so maybe he can be talked into coming back early.

Cricinfo backing Brownlie for #3 and the retention of Dougeh in the squad.

I want Milne.

Good opportunity for Brownlie. The domestic pitches are more batsman friendly already and the test ones should be even better. The Windies have shown up with pace and bounce and Shillingford might cop a ban. Brownlie needs to be more than a guy who takes advantage of tired pace dominant attacks down at number six, so moving up the order domestically and at least temporarily internationally is the right move. If he can show he's in the reckoning for more than just the contentious 5/6 spot it increases his selection odds.

Well, maybe...but it's worth remembering that in the last 6 home matches against South Africa and England, New Zealand only lost once.
And in the last 10 years, WI have won 5 Test matches against non-minnows (out of 81).

Anyway lads!!..after the news came through that the most pathetic selection panel in human history has decided to retain the same bunch of losers who embarrassed the great WI shirt in India and also rub salt in the wound by keeping that utter joke Darren Sammy as captain it really hit me for six!!!..even now i don't know if i can stomach watching the series!! :mad2:...something is seriously wrong in our cricket and it needs investigating!!..you can't continue to pick a captain that is utter tripe and brings nothing to the table while ignoring the likes of Rampaul and Narine!!..it's just not logical any way you look at it. Then in the batting department they've kept faith with the waste of space Gayle despite Brathwaite being the most inform batsman in the entire caribbean!!..and why pick Shillingford when he was called again against India? does that make sense? 8-)

I'm just fed up of those frauds running our cricket!!..Sammy is a spineless pr/ck who has somehow got himself a gig for life despite being the most incompetent cricketer we've had in recent history!!..

The team i would have picked would be

Brathwaite
Powell
Fudadin/Edwards
Darren Bravo
Samuels
Chanderpaul
Ramdin (wk) (c)
Holder
Roach
Rampaul
Narine

They've decided to stick with the status quo because if we get a result they can all praise the "captain" again and hide behind the "can't change a winning team" excuse once again despite him not taking wickets or making runs.

Clive Lloyd and Mikey Holding have called on him to resign and the major caribbean papers are going mad right now!!...it's a total embarrassment and i really don't care what happens in NZ!!....the truth is a defeat might be better for us long term!!..but even then i don't think we can trust the selectors or Gibson to do the right thing!!...they still keep their pet puppies like Tino Best and Sammy in the job!!.

Dunno how much of a case can be made for Narine tbh, didn't he go wicketless against Bangladesh? Shillingford only got called - not banned

Spot on, I only disagree about Cummins. New Zealand is the best possible debut for the young man and is potential is higher than anyone else we have. Him and Roach with the new ball could be devastating for years to come.

Gayle has torn his hamstring!!...he's out of this series and HOPEFULLY the tw#ts who sit on the selection panel will finally pick Kraigg Brathwaite!!...if they contrive to just pick Simmons because he's already with the boys then i give up!!!..i really do!! 8-) .

The series has 2 more games within a week but you want them to fly someone with a **** List A record half way round the world to play them rather than use the bloke already there?
Nah I think he's just saying he hopes Brathwaite gets added to the Test squad for NZ instead of Simmons. I don't think he's calling for him to go to India.

Kraigg in for the injured Gayle is a no-brainer. I really think he will make a big difference to our test match lineup if he gets a run in the side. He has more patience and batting common sense then the rest of the batting lineup combined (minus Shiv of course). I wouldn't pay to watch him bat, but I think he will get the job done and be a World Class performer.

Watching Jason Holder bowl today just re-affirmed my opinion that he would have been a solid option for this tour. I just can't believe Gabriel is there ahead of him.

So if Ravi is indeed fit though, why isn't he playing test matches?
I think Ravi is "fit" rather than fit. As in, he's not injured but he's not really in the sort of condition he'd need to be in to get through a five day game properly. Looked well short of rhythm in this game and, if we're being honest, carrying a few pounds.
