Any idea of conditions in Brum today? It's rained its arse off in London overnight and it feels hard to believe they're playing cricket anywhere in the country today

Windies won the toss, they'll bowl first. Good shout I reckon, could rain later, so if Dyson gets his numbers right D/L will be key. Backing England to win this game and win the series.

The weather looks alright atm Zaremba, a few clouds but it's fairly sunny. The pitch looks fairly flat but according to the groundsman has abit of moisture under the surface, so it could do abit early on.

Manchester is covered in glorious sunshine currently.

I'm visiting London on Thursday, so i can only hope normal business is resumed in the next few days.

I can't help but wonder that Jerome Taylor would be a far more successful bowler if he had some competant support. Rampaul is not terrible, but he is straying on to the pads far too much and Edwards rarely seems to turn up in ODIs as he does in Tests. Benn isn't too bad, but once again suffers from lack of support. If batsmen were not able to block out Benn and Taylor and attack the others, then the aforementioned could pick up a lot of wickets, imo.

I still don't see what all the fuss is over Jerome Taylor, he is a pretty good talent and clearly the most consistant of the West Indies bowlers but he has never really kicked on. He can bowl some real good spells, and then goes MIA for a couple of weeks.

MIA = Missing in action?

You could say so, but he has a tough job of exerting pressure whilst taking wickets, something that is difficult in both Tests and ODIs. Therefore, he can only take wickets sporadically because batsmen are rarely forced to attack him to relive pressure.

Well thats something the West Indies will have to look real hard at in the future. It seems as though Edwards has finally turned a corner, so the West Indies have two young fast bowlers that are able to take wickets with pace and swing. Instead of picking a guy like Daren Powell, get somebody that just bowls line and length and can stop the flow of runs. I think they though Baker could be that man, but sadly he isn't. They also have guys like Pascal, and Roach who are young and fast but very erratic. They need somebody like Clark, or dare I say McDonald that can tie up a end and let Edawards and Taylor attack.

Hmm. I disagree. You don't need one defensive bowler any more than you need a leg-spinner or a left-handed batsman. All you need is good bowlers. West Indies need someone else at least at the level of Edwards and Taylor, the style of such a player isn't especially relevant IMO.

Ravi looking excellent once more, we have to stick with him. Hes got the perfect mix of talent and mental attitude, unlike players that have opened for us in the past... *cough* Bell *cough* Rav's just getting better and better, I knew he had it in him!

Let's not go nuts, Bell was pretty much setting the world alight in the 2007 Natwest Series against India - a very similar situation.
