***Official*** West Indies in England

It's funny listening to these English comementators go on about Bopara and Cook, this preformance pretty much means nothing. This pitch is a shocker really.

Yeah this is the sort of stuff that is killing test cricket, although this sort of test series isn't helping.

Today's play is just reinforcing Chris Gayle's comments from earlier this week.

They didn't even bother to come out in time after tea.

Man I wish the West Indies would have batted first, I wouldn't mind see the English bowlers bowl on this since they created this monster of a pitch.

The Lords track didn't look too bad when England were batting on it though tbh. The ball wasn't carrying through, and it took a superb spell of bowling from Fidel Edwards to give West Indies some momentum. I'm fairly certain that England will bowl better on here than the West Indies have, not exactly a top class attack that the West Indies have is it. Edwards is really the only consistently impressive performer. Taylor shows glimpses of brilliance but then is mediocre the rest of the time, Baker is abit of a nothing bowler, Benn is ok at best and then you've got the part-timers. I think England will perform far better with the ball than West Indies have.

And add in the fact that the English batsmen are better then the West Indies batsmen. So that makes the English bowlers job's abit easier then the West Indies bowlers jobs.

Ravi Bopara is no different to Ian Bell really, he is just lucky he gets so many lives.

And now Atherton is going on about it.

At Lords Windies dropped 7 catches in 1 session FFS, the ball was swinging all day and England would have been all out for 220-250 if they had fielded at all well. I knew we were in trouble by the end of the 1st day.

Today the ball is bouncing twice before it gets to the wicket keeper, the ball has hardly moved off the seam or through the air all day. England might get slightly more bounce out of it due to their superior height, but unless it clouds over monstrously I can't see them getting more movement.

Ravi Bopara differs from Ian Bell in that he actually has some mental strength and confidence in his ability. He also tends to be able to battle through any period of low scoring without chucking his wicket away, something Bell has continuously proven he's not able to do. Bell is probably a better batsman technically, but Bopara has the other attributes required to truely succeed at Test level and make the most of his tremendous ability. Sure he's had abit of luck, but it's very rare that you'll find a perfect Test innings with zero mistakes.

Beamer. Swing comes from the ball, and the bowlers wrist position/action and can be somewhat influenced by wind. I'm pretty certain that a few clouds coming over will not cause the ball to hoop around.

Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards are natural swing bowlers who moved the ball pretty much all day at Lords. Today they have not got a single ball to swing.

Humidity and overhead conditions have a huge amount to do with how much it swings and it is cold today, the clouds are high and therefore swing has been minimal.

TBH that new ball spell by the Windies was as bad as I've seen for a while. If you can't get the ball remotely straight, hard to see how you can slate the pitch. Could of been Mahmood and Harmison.

Hard to relate Bell to Bop. Bell is generally disliked for a perceived lack of mental strength. So we'll have to wait to see on Bopara, I've an open mind myself......

The lack of swing on show will either have been due to the ball not being a swinging ball, or the fact that Taylor and Edwards haven't got their wrist position correct to allow the ball to swing. I'm almost certain that there have been studies written that disprove the whole 'atmospheric conditions cause swing' hypothesis. Sure I heard it somewhere.

Hundred for Cook. 2nd of the year, maybe he's finally worked out how to go on from a start to make a score!

He's not even been able to cash in on flat decks against rubbish bowling in the past though, often getting out for between 40 and 50.

Well I guess thats something right

I just really want to see England bowl on this pitch, lets see if Onions can do what he did at Lords here. Hopefully he doesn't and the best bowler in England, Ryan Sidebottom comes back into the side.

Bopara comes out fireing, up to 99 now. He looks like a real talent this kid.

And there it is, 100 for Bopara.

3rd Hundred in a row for Bopara. Showing Ian Bell and Michael Vaughan how to cash in at number 3. Joins Sutcliffe, Compton, Boycott and Gooch in scoring 3 consecutive Test hundreds for England. Awesome stuff.
