Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Gower talked about how Cook builds his innings. That is such a big strength of Cook. What I love most is his temperament and composure. Never seems fazed and always seems to know what he is doing. Seems he belongs there - which often differentiates long standing test players from also rans. At just 22, these are all impressive signs.

I remember doing that for Colly in the Ashes, good job I never decided to wait for his 200 I was tired enough

Well impressed, btw, at the Aussies and Kiwis who stay up to watch two teams that have nothing to do with them just because it's Test Cricket. I salute thee
Its worth it to see test cricket again:happy:

And no work tomorrow helps :jump:

Well impressed with Cook today. Really assured knock.

Hopefully he starts again tomorrow and goes for a huge score.

Is Taylor carrying a knock or was his first spell just that dire?

&, btw, it was good to hear Bish describe the Windies bowling before lunch as "dire" too; wonder if the big fella ever has a crafty look at CW?

Looks a fairly strong overnight position for us, but a couple of early wickets might throw the cat amongst the pigeons. With Plunkers at 8 we have (potentially) a rather long tail.

Yes Taylor didnt seem to be firing on all cylinders, and seemed a touch short on pace. The biggest problem of course was the areas he was bowling, and the rest of the attack to be fair, except in some decent patches in the afternoon.

We are in a strong position, Cook was exceptional today, risk free cricket, and I thought Colly looked in good nick when he came in. A few excellently timed pushes off the back foot through the offside.

Lets hope these two go on and get big ones! With Bell and Prior still to come!

My sentiments exactly, TBH. Probably been said before, though, and people like Rob (Prince EWS) and Gelman (pasag) are generally guys who take an interest in everything.

Added to the fact Gelman never goes to bed before 5AM. :-O

Was it just my eyes playing tricks, or did Collymore just bowl a ball with a completely different action to the norm?
Collymore seems to have developed a totally different action in this match. Normally he has a relatively small leap and then bowls very chest on - however he seems to have added a ball - purely as variation once an over or so - which is somewhat of a throwback to his tearaway fast bowler past, where he has a bigger leap and bowls side-on, getting appreciably more outswing. Odd that he's decided to do it now and never before, TBH. One can only guess that such a ball is a greater risk of injury, and he figures that he's nearing the end of his career anyway so the risk has fewer concequences, but it still seems quite odd really. Especially given how different the deliveries look.
I'm really looking forwards to seeing this - never seen Collymore with his old action.

Yep, could prove to be Eng's best home-grown bat since Gower IMO.

Hahaha. Thorpe > Gower anyday.

Cook almost certainly has what it takes to be better than any - perhaps even the best since Boycott.

In Tests, that is. None of the aforementioned bar Thorpe were that good in ODIs.

Taylor's pace was OK (got up to 89 mph) but he had little rhythm or consistency in his bowling.

Both he and Powell were really impressive at times in the CT and WC respectively, so hopefully this was just a case of lacking match practice
