*Official* West Indies In Australia

The only type of fast bowling that can get wickets on flat decks, is fast bowlers who can reverse it. We saw that in IND when AUS toured last year (Khan & Sharma). Plus what we saw from Lee, Hoggard & Agarkar in recent Adelaide tests in the last decade.

Hilfy is the only man who can reverse/covention swing the ball consistently. He definately would have made a difference here. Would have probably gotten Gayle out early too..

Yes, but they also had Benn exploting the rough patches againts the left-handers. Hauritz doesn't have that. Thats why Taylor & co crying out for Katch to bowl whole day now..

Hoggard reversed it?

Yeah looks like a draw, hopefully WI go all out next session. If they can put up 330-350 and bowl a few overs tonight then we may get a result. Aussie will go for it if you put the carrot out in front of them.
Another session like the one we saw sees the Windies with a lead of about 270 going into the 5th day, then it really comes down to whether Gayle wants to risk losing the match (and consequently the series), or play it safe and bat Australia out of the game.

If he goes for the former, a quick slog in the morning, set about 300-350 off 70-80 overs and we could have a really interesting last day.

Man, Richie and Greigy were annoying with their elementary school lesson on swing and reverse swing with yet another inane comment on hotspot by Richie. What was worse was trying to convince the viewers into believing that Watto was actually moving the ball. Rubbish. Been a little spoiled in listening to the NZ Sky team. So much better than the 3 commentary team.

Stoked that Gayle scored a hundred though. So sweet. Saw that man on Queen Street when they toured NZ last, went upto him, shook his hand and said hello. The man just oozes "cool" from his pores.

It's far from the only way to take wickets on flat decks. Guys like McGrath and Gillespie, despite not being major reverse swing exponents, took plenty at Adelaide. Don't recall any reverse from Hoggard either.

Besides which, with conditions as cool as they are today, would be hard to get the ball to reverse anyway.

Dont really recall much from Hilf either

Tbh, of all the Aussie quicks, Hilf is the one I'd most like to face on Adelaide as he is pretty much a one-trick pony and on a wicket as good as this, quality players could really line him up

So what target will the West Indies set? Will we see a declaration tonight? If so, you would expect the WI to up the tempo from now.

...and Nash is gone. Amazed Watson hasn't bowled more today. Australia are already one bowler down, and Watson is probably Australia's best flat surface bowler. Pretty canny on these sort of surfaces, mixing his deliveries up and generally bowling wicket to wicket. Far better pressure building bowling than the likes of Johnson and Bollinger who are prone to a half volley or two an over.

Don't recall that tbh - just quality with his accuracy and patience did the trick iirc.
He definately was reversing it in Adelaide that day. The accuracy wouldn't have meant anything if he didn't get the reverse. He would have been very easy for the AUS batsmen then on a flat wicket.

Not all Adelaide decks in the last decade have reversed tbh. Those 3 examples are the only ones i have seen in the last 11 years since the 98 Ashes test.

Mcgrath & Dizzy definately became reverse swing king's, you remember this?. Although they weren't as natural as Kasper.

Bollinger & Watson have gotten wickets via reverse swing today..come on now. Reverse swing is all about the dryness of the pitch, overhead conditions can't stop it once the bowler has the skills to exploit it

Nah man. Hoggard has gotten some very good reverse swing (most in to right handers) this year in SA & ENG. Hoggard pretty much proved in Brisbane he can bowl on flat decks, he is no way a one trick poney.

Part of me gets very nervous when Johnson starts around the wicket usually but that was nice.

Nice work by OZ in general; tighten the screws, let the batters put themselves under pressure. Perfect.

Defensive cricket. Disgraceful.
