I didn't think it was such a bad pitch.. it looked worse because India got their specialist spinners to bowl every over without any part-timer breaks. The pitch for the WC '03 semi was pretty similar as well.. 230 par score and plenty of assistance for spinners. I mean the Aus vs. SL semi, obviously.
It wasn't a bad pitch, just not really an ideal one. The variable bounce is a rather important factor, got at least one wicket.

It's not surprising though, quality spin was our major issue throughout 08/09 too. Botha had us in real problems. Quick footwork is all but non-existent in our lineup. It makes me chuckle when experts talk about players being good players of spin... based on bashing Shield spinners on home decks.
Contradiction spotted.

The SL-Aus Test series later this year should certainly be an interesting one.

Australia's batting was dreadful yesterday - they really should have won that game in a stroll

Even Brett Lee should hang his head in shame as when you require 2 and a bit an over, there is no excuse for going the slog

If that was Pakistan, people would be making all sorts of accusations

heh, love the arse-covering by the Aussie entourage, though.. In warm-ups, it's a universal truth that if you win, it's good prep but if you win, eh, they don't matter anyway. Fact is, they were cruising and lost to a team who they, provided they get that far, may be playing when it does matter in a final. If nothing else, that's not ideal. A decent example of how important an early win is occurred in '03; India, having only lost once (horribly) to Australia in '03 absolutely froze when they played them again in the final.

It doesn't matter in terms of points for the tournament but the Aussies missed an opportunity to get one over India here. They should have been going balls out to beat them, even if it is a warm-up.
Agree. That loss was on back of Ganguly's mind when he decided not to bat first in the final, having folded for 120 something in the earlier game. The final was lost at the toss*

* That may be an overstatement, but it's only for effect :D

...is it really that bad? Credits Sreesanth for bowling well, laughs at his antics.

Isn't that what we all do? :lookaroun

Ok, I just searched news items for Ponting vs Sreesanth. This is the first one I got:

Loose cannon Sreesanth riles Ponting with loser gesture

How is SMH regarded in Australia? This particular piece was quite dire in quality. Just as bad as some of the Indian news agencies.
SMH is a well respected publication itbt.

Not sure what's wrong with the article in question? A little bit sensationalist, but it reports the facts accurately as far as I can tell.

Broad has no hair and our training kit is red and white. Has anyone seen our new ODI shirt?

Anyone who watch the game let me know what kinda of pace Sreesanth was bowling. He has been a lot in the 130kph region recently, which does not cut it with his temperamental accuracy - but then, there is a similar issue with Munaf and Nehra. There was a series of India Vs Australia where both Sreesanth and RP Singh were constantly at 140kph - ah, those were the days. These days, Sree is down on pace and RP keeps getting smacked about in the Ranji OD competition.

I was complaining to my mate when watching that they weren't showing the speedometer. Had to rely on the commentators to know how fast a ball was if they happened to mention it.

Better not be the case during the WC.

Sreesanth is an arse and I hate him all the time. But any news reporting is expected to be less dramatic and more evenly toned. I don't expect that article to appear on cricinfo for example even though cricinfo does write articles that reprimand bad on field behaviour.

I still can't understand why we agreed for anything but a 11 v 11 game against India when we knew that Tait, Smith and Haddin aren't going to play any part in the game..!?

The speedo was there for the first few overs but I think it wasn't really showing accurate readings so I guess therefore they just scrapped it for the rest of the game.
