In which case they should call for the 3rd umpire everytime so that they don't get it wrong.
When they know its not out or out, I dont think they need to call in for the 3rd umpire just for the sake of it. Obviously if there is even 1% doubt, they should go fo the 3rd umpire. But if the umpire is in a good position and can make the correct call confidently as Taufle did, there isnt any requirement to go for the 3rd umpire.

Not too bad a performance by Zimbabwe, but it's all a little too late - and they really just didn't score enough. 160-180 might have really tested India, whose top order (with the exception of Laxman, who was terribly unlucky) has been poor again.

Zimbabwe probably had some small chance to win this match though, had they not put down those catches.

In reality this probably won't hurt India much at all, in terms of the finals series - I think they'll be relieved to be batting at more bat-friendly Melbourne and Sydney again, and their strokeplay will, if anything, be even more assured after such a tough experience. And even if nobody else carries much out of the game, Pathan certainly will.

And the Laxman run-out decision really was so safe it wasn't worth it to call for the 3rd umpire.

I think they are wasting Gawaskar by sending him so late at 7th position . He must be up there at 4 I guess .

Why? Laxman, Dravid are much better than Gavaskar higher up the order. You want the best players to play the most overs..

Badani scores the winning runs, and we're done here.

I think Zimbabwe's effort in this match sums up their tour. Pitiful in the top order thus requiring the middle order to try and ressurect. Little spots here and there during the match where there were hints that they could win, but really they were never in the game.

Ashame with the talent they have, they've got potential in certain areas, just silly decisions and mistakes that put them out of the game.

Now to the finals... here we go. Whoever wins it's definitely going to be one to watch. :)

india did win but it wasnt convinsing but a win is a win, however the zimbabwee where a little dissapointing considering they have reached the super 6's in the last 2 world cups, but hey bring on the finals

with both teams having near strength sides it should be a cracker, i guess india are lucky non of the finals are played in perth :P

tis gonna be good finals, peoples.....I hope it goes down to the last game in Brisbane....getting all worked up just thinking about it....

on todays game though, I was hoping for Zimbabwe to bat alot better than they did, but Pathan was just too good for em...and the indian top order would certainly be glad they are not playing in perth for the finals!

Boycott said it was an enjoyable experience in Perth, with the sun, the clear sky, the river, the buildings,...but the only thing he did not like was the pitch! He said it's not good for cricket, but I think it provides fresh relief from the exhibition match flat tracks. And you?

A period when Australia were nowhere near the best side in the World - great.
Well they were good enough to draw a test series against West Indies(the best side in the world) in 1981.......

Do not try to belittle that effort....it was against a good side...acknowledge it....also remember that the "Botham test" of 1981 was also against the same side minus Greg Chappel...so before you go belittling Kapil's effort at MCG in 1981, look at the details carefully.

Marc wasn't belittling it - just pointing out that it had little to no relevance to India winning the Test concerned (Melbourne 2003).

Ofcourse it had no bearing with the recent MCG test. I was taking issue with the connotation in Marc's post, that Kapil's effort was not against one of the best sides of the time.

Well done to India, another good but not good enough effort by Zimbabwe.

They seem to have talent in the side, I particularly like Sean Ervine, but they do need to start converting potential into results. I'm sure Geoff Marsh is working hard and moving forward.

Can't wait for the finals to begin!!
