Seriously though I am not sure if this has to do with his run of poor scores .

I hope Gilly's rest has not made a change to his batting form particularly against SL.:)
it doesnt just being rested.

Taking the lead from the Aussies, I think SL should rest Sanath J against SA . I would also rest Mahela or Arnold with a view to playing the new Middle order batsman Chamara Kapugedera against SA.

My Team for game V SA

Tharanga
Mubarak
Sangakkara
Kapugedera
Mahela
Dilshan
Atapattu
Vaas
Perera

Agree , he has not done anything in NZ or Australia, and when he has had a few overs to bat appears out of sorts or struggles to get on with the job at hand.

i still think SJ will be better for srilnka in the long run if he bats in the middle order.
Having watched him bat yesterday, I have to say his batting style of slogging/ lifting most over the infield is not suited when the Power Play is not there. He will get out much more easily either due to frustration at not being able to score off every ball or off most balls and particularly with his attacking style he will not suit the Middle order as he will end up getting out quite easily .

All the more reason that I was puzzled Yesterday when Ponting called for Power Play 2 straight after Power Play 1 even as Sanath J was going hell for leather thru Power Play 1 .

Ponting is rested and they pick HODGE?! Where the hell is Jaques?! This is a joke... Put Katich at 3 for christs sake..

iam surprised that they announced the squads so early, i would have thought that if SA beat SL they would have wanted to play their best possible side.

Can someone tell me why the selecters are so fond of katich when he averages a meagre 30 after 26 games??
Plus hes as ugly as all hell when he bats.

Batting in an ugly way doesn't matter. Stuart Clark has no facial expressions, but the selectors don't hold that against him

Hmm, the selectors are obviously picking like for like. Hodge did belt the New South Welshmen around the park in the Twenty20 final yesterday so they figure that he's worth having another chance.

Possibly Jaques will get back in the side, but the selectors don't want to anounce this change only a day after the side got trounced by the Sri Lankans.

If the selectors picked decent back-ups (Kasper, Gillespie, Bichel) then we wouldn't have that problem.
Well that'll cover the next 12-18 months, but then what...

Bracken`s average of 17.6 at an economy of 3.4 in this series not good enough? Or is it his ODI bowling average of 22?
No, it's because he hasn't got a stupid nickname.

Interesting to see that Watson is being selected by Aussie in that side in a role that he's often been selected in, has seldom if ever worked in and has often been mentioned on here as not being the right role for him.

That's a fair point, but considering the selectors tried Lewis, and he is in fact older than Gillespie, it starts to lose significance...
