India v Sri lanka in a 5-match series is not really something that interests fans considering the fact that they played only recently. But, i guess its cricket and most indian and sri lankan fans ( and perhaps others) will still watch this encounter!
Oh I'm definitely going to watch, but my major interest in this series is to see how India fight back after a 4-1 loss to WI in the ODIs, the return of Sachin, and of course because India have been off for a while.

series is back on but wet outfield may ruin things for IND v SL. this is getting really annoying!:@

SA are going back home!!!! Disaster for the series, plus wet weather menas that a 3-match series between ind v sl is not possible. India say that they don't want to play more than 3 matches. I guess thats the right decision; it seems like a worthless series anyway. All indian fans can look forward to IND-WI-AUS. Its on zee tv in the UK

not trying to be too harsh.....the south african team is scared about their safety and are not happy about the security that is offered to them. Why is it then that they don't mind wandering around colombo with that security on a sunny day but refuse to play matches?

Here's a quote: There is also some mystification about the statement from the South African High Commission in Colombo, which states that "the team, and cricket in general, do not appear to be targets in the civil unrest in Sri Lanka."

Why are SA refusing to play then? Afraid of losing or what? Or is it that the senior players want a bit of rest?
A bomb in a shopping mall? I don't think the people who lay these bombs care about who gets killed by the sounds of it!

I don't think they've been wondering around Columbo since that bomb went off.. It just missed Makhaya Ntini and Andre Nel.. Expect they are shacked up in the hotel waiting for the green light to leave..

My parents have just cancelled their holiday to Sri Lanka which is a relief to me anyway..

Sure you can. Its not like they were targetted specifically. India is staying put.
Shame we can't send you to the Liberty plaza to see who's getting targeted... It's a bomb, it can kill anyone..

Oh, please. I understand not wanting to lose because consistent losing can have bad psychological effect on a team, but don't make stupid excuses. India are staying put, and we'll have another annoying and pointless bilateral series.

Indian players are much more famous in India and would be much bigger targets than the SAffies anyway.

According to the newspapers here, an e-mail was sent to the Saffies telling them it would be better for them to leave and came from some group called the Tamil Tigers youth.(I'm not exactly sure of this name.)
The Indians did not receive such an e-mail. Therefore, the threat (it was taken as that or why bother to send it), was meant only for the Saffies!
Be honest, would any of you really be prepared to put your life in jeopardy to play a cricket match?

If it was actually in jeopardy, then no. The question is whether they are really in any danger.

Silentstriker, you really are in position to decide whether they are really in danger or not. There were experts who didn't feel comfortable with the secutiry and that should be enough for all of us to accept.

Only if a few were killed would they have known for sure. They decided they'd rather not find out for sure.

No, I am not in such a position. I am simply responding to a situation where one team left while the other stated unequivocally (and immediatly) that they were happy with the situation.

Anyway, I don't see this discussion headed anywhere constructive, so I won't comment anymore on the decision by the SAffies to leave.

For those who are playing, I say India takes it 2-1, in an upset.

Which brings to mind the question why they even scheduled such a long series in this time of year?

Couldn't possibly be $$$ could it?

The South African team recieved a direct threat to their safety from the Tamil Tiger Youth. That was the key issue that made them cancel the tour.

Could it be because it was the one-day leg of the Test tour?
Anyway, is that the reason why SA went home? 8-)
