Mishra's looked very neat in this match. He's made the batsmen play, brought about false strokes, kept a tight line and did well on the back of an impressive start by the seamers. He's no rookie, but the next best spinner in India, and should be a regular in ODIs now- he's looked a lot better than any other Indian spinner in this series. A partnership of Harbhajan and Mishra will do the team a lot of good for some time to come.
The Indian seamers were largely average, but this was their day. Tyagi was good in his first over, but seemed to fall away after that. His patchy fielding may hinder him as a limited-overs bowler, and he should work on that aspect. Zaheer returning to form is a good sign, but the decision to have him coming in first-change is questionable, and he should return to opening the bowling now. While they have improved a lot in this game, they're still not doing enough for the team on their prime aspect, and future selections should include seam bowlers who can contribute in all aspects. The Lankans, like most other teams, have several seam bowlers who can score a few, and are served well.
Even when the Indian bowling put up a superior performance, the gulf between the prime bowlers and the part-time bowlers was visible again- while the seamers and Mishra did well to stifle the batting, Sanga and the lower order built partnerships while facing Yuvraj, Raina and also Jadeja, and assembled enough to go on past 200. By the time the seamers came back, the batsmen were settled and played with a lot more ease. Will this prove costly for the Indians? The next session will tell.
A special mention goes to the Lankan lower order. These are not average tailenders, but decent batsmen, who can contribute collectively to take the team total forward. With wickets falling regularly, they dropped anchor and built two partnerships and hit a few big shots when available. While Randiv isn't as accomplished as the batsmen above and below him, he's stretched his batting ability well to score more than a few. They're not a very explosive bunch with the ball, one by one, but they seem a practical choice to assemble a team.
