*Official* Training Camp (West Indies Tour)

International 12th Man
It is a proud feeling, having been here from the start, playing for my country. Those first moments, walking onto the ground for CWLands first ever test, nothing can compare to that moment.

It hasn't always been easy however, I was dropped fairly early in my career from the test squad, after 4 tests. That was devestating for me at the time. The pain I felt, especially at such a young age, was quite tough to deal with. My ODI career didn't last much longer.

It's something most people don't like to think of, the darker side of cricket per se, of any sport really, being dropped from any team is a depressing experience. I don't think it's something anyone can truly understand until they've been there. Especially for me, after being dropped after such a short time, the euphoria was gone in an instance, how the proud fall.

There was still hope, I was young, so I dug into dev league cricket, with rather unimpressive results to start off with. I guess your cricket suffers when you're somewhat bitter about the whole affair. It's an easy hole to fall into, and I have to admit I fell into it in a big way. However, time and experience heal all wounds. I started to bowl with more consistency, and whilst I was still far from my best, I was slowly improving.

During the rebel tour I got a call up for the ODI squad, however that doesn't really do your confidence much good. All the first choice options are unavailable, so they get in the rejects, the dregs. Really not the greatest feeling.

It was after this that the worst moment of my career happened, perhaps the best too. Mulriple stress fractures to the back, and I was out. Devestating, I thought that was the end of my career, in fact many said it was the end of my career, I had a lot of detractors. It was that fact that actually got me through in the end, I wanted to prove them wrong. It was a long road to recovery, a reworked bowling action, a tougher mental regime. Still, many thought I wasn't going to get back to any level of success, and I was mostly ignored, didn't get a chance. Until controversy gave me a chance. Current test player Guy Kerridge was suspended for disciplinary reasons, and after months of insistence from Dave Watt, I got my chance. I never looked back, I couldn't, I had a chance! I had to take it.

I don't know if I've ever felt so good about my cricket, everything just clicked, and by the end of the season, I was recalled to the test squad. In a way, that's almost the proudest moment of my career, I was able to get back into the team after so long on the outer, after so long not even being first choice for a Dev league team.

I suppose after all this rambling though, the whole point of my talk is this.

Don't give up, if you're dropped, if you're injured, if you're a rookie trying to break into the XI, if you're not performing to your desired level, just don't give up. There is always hope, just believe in yourself. Don't fall into the trap I fell into, just keep on playing to the best of your ability. Anything is possible.

Training Camp has gone swimmingly of late and to be honest... due to the lack of competitive cricket I've actually found my time here rather fun and advantageous.

To be honest there was a secret behind the beep test result.... As a fat man you'll find with momentum all you have to do is lean forward and let your weight carry you... However this normally isn't conjusive to beep tests where you have to turn around lots. So I hit the town the night before with some local ladies and met up with DeMeza. I told him he should come along as my helper. So as soon as he got out he'd stand at either end of the laps and give me a huge push at the start of each lap and then I'd just be like a runaway train.

The form in the practice game was good. The Goff XI had absolutely nothing but!!!
Har har.

A little disappointing to miss out, but I'm happy enough to go back and try and keep performing for the Blues and aim for the World Cup.

Wilson certainly deserves his place anyway. He is a quality player.
Yeah, quite unlucky I'd say after your name was first suggested earlier :)

The Goff XI hit back hard in the second OD training match, as Ash Chaulk and Brendon Goff pummelled the lacklustre Pickup XI bowling attack to reach a victory target of 198/3 in just 32.1 overs. Earlier, Ian Markus was called upon again, as he was the backbone of a disappointing score of 197 all out. Even batting at number six, Markus was required to score 93, before Halsey trapped him with a googly.

Only Butler, Moerk and Pickup reached double figures otherwise, and Thompson, Hoy and Wright shared 7 wickets.

Pickup XI 197 ao (49.4 overs)
Goff XI 198/3 (32.1 overs)

Goff XI won by 7 wickets.

Robbins released by CWBCC

The CWBCC has announced that Marc Robbins has been released from both the current training camp as well as the Test and One Day International squads to tour the West Indies. Co-chairman, Liam Camps sr. said, "We are very disappointed with the attitude shown by Marc Robbins, a veteran of Cricket Web cricket. He made this move necessary, as we can not tolerate such poor behaviour in the senior team, no less from a veteran player."

Though the decision comes on the back of severe and seemingly baseless criticism of coach Pratyush Agarwal, reports suggest that Agarwal was the only person defending the continued presence of Robbins at the camp and in the squad. He was quoted as saying, "Marc is an important member of the squad. I have said that seeing him bat one step higher up the order could be looked into. It has been sad development I think."

No replacement has been named as of yet.
This was expected.

Nice rebound there.Good batting by Chaulk and Markus with Goff playing a skipper's knock. Nice bowling from Thompson. Augurs well. Happy with my bowling over the last two games. Been very economical compared to recently. Must be finding my groove again.

Remove the score of Markus and the true story of the performance of the Pickup XI unfolds. Very disappointed with the efforts.. If Pickup could last 49 balls on this pitch, I do not find a good reason why the top order players should struggle despite the over cast conditions early on.

I am happy with the efforts of Rose, Hoy, Wright, Thompson and Halsey. Halsey showed signs of how good he can be when he doesnt bowl loose balls .I am also very pleased that Hoy is bowling with a lot of brains not losing his pace (some thing we discussed yesterday).

Goff XI batters went on the attack which was a nice positive approach. Put the Pickup XI bowlers on the back foot with a low total to defend. Pickup utilised a bit of inexperience of Mamesh who played a loose shot when he could have just gone on to block one end while the others would pile on the runs from the other end. Doesn't matter Mamesh. You are young and hopefully you learn from such innings..

I noticed Thompson played, but Wilson did not, even though Singh was still in a side and is not really needed anymore. Is he injured?

Wilson didn't arrive in time to join the squad for that game.
