His average isn't great and he doesn't keep regularly for his county. He has potential but that's it ats afaic.Jos Buttler would've been a miles better choice than Bairstow IMO, but admittedly I don't know much about England domestics
Yeah, this. Tell Bailey to piss off, call up Hughes, North or some other **** who can bat top-order, make Watson the all-rounder.Seing Watson bat like this is why I would ideally love him to bat at six in a five man attack. Really get the impression that with him having been moved around so much in his career that he often doesn't know how he should bat, and seems almost insecure. If they had a good enough top order that he could be given a licence batting down the order he could be a slightly poor man's Gilly instead of a really poor man's Boonie.

He'd be batting at 7 though, right? Do you really need him to average 40 from there? Or is the quality of county cricket just that low?Steve Davies is probably the man I'd like to see picked if Prior couldn't play the next Test. It's never going to happen though. If we were having this conversation this time next year though and Jos could average 40 for the season then I'd go for him obviously. Just think he needs to rack up some more hours behind the stumps before we go for him.
Its probably true but it doesn't excuse his constant ****ness. He's just a front foot plodder who doesn't know how to convert a start. That's criminal wherever you bat.Seing Watson bat like this is why I would ideally love him to bat at six in a five man attack. Nah then you just feel guilty having not watched your team pull off a miracle.English supporters should get drunk over the remaining two days of this Test, not tune in to any scores, then log in on Tuesday morning/evening and hope for a "Amazing Rearguard by England" sort of headline. That's such a wonderful feeling, helps the hangover too.
So you are saying they are not likely to miss much?Nah then you just feel guilty having not watched your team pull off a miracle.
I've been wondering why he's fallen from favour - heard him talked about as a big prospect for years, then looked promising the couple of times I saw him. Lost form?Steve Davies is probably the man I'd like to see picked if Prior couldn't play the next Test.
In the Test side, yeah. He'll bat top 6 for Lancs though I expect. Averaging 40 in the County Championship isn't that much of a tough ask, though admittedly he never managed it while batting at Taunton for half his games. He'd be batting at 7 though, right? Do you really need him to average 40 from there? Or is the quality of county cricket just that low?
Just looked like the perfect guy to have coming in at 7 and he looks athletic enough from what I saw that he could be a good keeper. Admittedly I only saw him in ODIs.
