*Official* Third Test at Old Trafford

Yeah really enjoyed today. KP played well, and I was really pleased to see him get a ton, but it does seem to be compulsory that whenever he makes a century it has to be labelled a great innings.

Bell was superb and only beaten by one of the best bits of cricket we have seen this series.

Gutted I missed today, seems like a cracker. Lucky I've taped the whole day and have an empty house this evening.

What a great day's cricket. So much better than one-sided contests no matter who you support. This is all you can ask of Australia, just to show some fight and skill. Still a worry now one seems capable (psychologically at least) of producing a hundred bar Clarke. And disappointed about Lyon. Such a shame rain is going to intervene as this could otherwise turn out to be a classic.

Why is Trott just wandering about the crease? He seems to have lost all compactness in his technique recently, must have something to do with the way he keeps getting out.

Completely agree with all that, but has anyone said it's a great innings, been a bit out of the loop today, but it was just a very good one. He is over-hyped at times, but looking through this thread it seems reasonable.

Personally I'm happier with his performance in this one, when he struggled at times, then the ones where he's just Imperious, proper cricket. Well done KP.:thumbup1:

KP took the Clarke approach to rating his innings; worthless if we don't win or draw. Good man.

I think I read or heard a couple of greats thrown in but yeah I guess it has not been that over the top.

ughhhhh......i understand being a sentimental fan and i understand being on tenterhooks and i understand being ****ing hammered even (which i am right now), but god DAMN I can't stand the negativity. I havent seen most of this day but I read the scorecard and there is just no reason for Australian fans to feel downcast. Two whole days left, you have the 175 lead VERY much at hand...jeez its a Test match!

Great team knock but not anywhere near as good as in India or at Headingley last year. Probably not even in his top 3 against the crims.

He had a lot of luck, missed so, so many deliveries and had that lbw let-off. But he's been nicking them every time so far this series so I guess that's fair enough. It's a big contribution to the team too, they really shouldn't go on to lose from here.

Rain mate, properly horrid forecast.

Gotta agree re KP. It was so far from a classic knock it's funny that people are calling it such. Really didn't look convincing but they were important runs for him and England - and he should be applauded for making him when he wasn't at his best

Can't help but laugh at this stuff from the press conference though or wherever he was talking for this cricinfo article. England v Australia, 3rd Investec Test, Old Trafford, 3rd day : Kevin Pietersen avoided surgery to play Ashes | Cricket News | Australia in England - The Investec Ashes | ESPN Cricinfo

Can just imagine the players back in the changing room rolling their eyes at him. Most of them are going to managing injuries throughout their career and dealing with pain every day. You don't here Bres or Swann talking about their elbows. We wouldn't of known about Cook's back were it not for Swann letting slip.

Tbf, if you watch the conference he was hardly going to be able to avoid the subject. He didn't bring it up out of the blue.

Broad spoke extensively about having to manage his heel as well.

nah comeon I didn't watch it but it's just KP down to the ground. With KP it's always one thing or another. It just wears down his teammates. They've all got injuries, give it a rest.

Whateve happened to Gary Cooper?

Those last 3 wickets... If we can get them quick enough to force England to bat 4 sessions there could be a chance of a result. I'm assuming we don't follow on. Generally against it and in this specific case would fear for the health of our fast men for the rest of this match and series if we do. Especially if KP neuters Lyon again. Speaking of KP, great knock and one predicted by Strauss too. You know there was one ripping inswinging Yorker from Harris when KP was on nought or not far past it. Oooo close. If only...

Have to agree with the criticism here about Dharma. I think he needs to go. The teams have lost confidence in him as we see a number of decns not referred that would have normally have been if they believed the umpire actually had any idea.

Watching the highlights, just seen KP's dismissal. This is getting beyond a joke now. I'm not angry because he's an England plaer, he was lbw for 60 odd. But...there's a hot spot. It's not massive, but it doesn't need to be massive. Is this guy blind? Does he need glasses? Do they need better tv's for the 3rd umpires? It's not DRS it's the people using it.

As for the state of the match, Aussies still well on top. I think we need 400 to be relatively safe. Even if we avoid the follow on, say 190 behind, Australia only have to bat for 3 hours to get a 300 lead. England will still be required to bat for 4 sessions to save this test.

Good day's play. Very unlikely England will win though, but the draw seems the most likely unless rain stays away.
