*Official* Third Test at Edgbaston

India haven't played at Edgbaston for a while now. Infact 1996 was the last time they played there.

Sachin scored a terrific century(122) with wickets falling around him, in that match in the second innings with the second highest score being 18. Feel we need a big game from him here.
Was there that day, best test hundred I have seen live. All my mates naffed off to the bar to watch the opening game of Euro 96 England v Switzerland. I made the right decision watching Sachin. Was a true masterclass on a poor wicket.

Looks like Tremmers may well miss out again. Failed to train with the others today.

Shame, but the important thing is not to rush him back if he's not ready.

Solves a problem in a way. I definitely want Tremmers to play at The Oval though.

And here's why 2011 England has the edge over 2005...because we'd have played a half-fit Tremlett back then if possible (not actually Tremlett himself, you know what I mean).

Sehwag will do well to make an impact. Unbelievable player but his technique just isn't made for England.
If he has his day, it doesn't matter what the conditions are.

I'm happy with the bowling, but very concerned about the batting. We really need the openers to fire without Trott in the team - Bell is the only really dependable batsman in that middle order atm. If one of Cook or Strauss (both please) really step up then I'll be happy.

Aside from the fact he was out on the drive a few times (which tells you something by itself), looking at the dismissals doesn't tell you as much as what happened before them. The problems he had will be exacerbated in England.

Indeed.

would like to see Sehwag bat in England especially under cloud cover if possible.

Any match of the remaining two scheduled at Old Trafford?

Nope.

In any case Sehwag is coming back from surgery after months without having played any cricket, so can't expect him to straightaway hit top gear.

Also i feel people here are exaggerating his alleged troubles in South Africa quite a bit. Even his 20/30's in relatively low scoring games were crucial to get India off to a start(specially in the 2nd test) and he didn't really struggle too much before his dismissal in all but 1 or maybe 2 innings IIRC and played some good attacking shots too.
Infact he averaged more than Dravid who looked more clueless that series.

I see you say this a lot and it's always good to read because people seem to ignore it. Looking at only the delivery that gets a batsman out surely ignores the fundamental principles of cricket?

Would imagine that if you look at a batsman who can't play the short ball, he has a fair few yorker dismissals, for example?

actually sehwag didn't look out of sorts in SA . he just played 'bad' shots. (prob had trouble adjusting to the extra bounce and pace in the pitches)

those drives were caught at cover/midoff !
