What the **** makes anyone think the cricketing authorities would go against a precedent they set in this series is beyond me
just wait and see.
even if the overrate's 13 or so,
90 will still be bowled in the day because of the extra half an hour at the end of the day.
worst case scenario is losing 2 or so overs in the day. wow what a gain that would be for india.

don't know where teh you're bringing this **** from.

fast bowlers are fatigued, so you'll see more spin which means a better overrate.

and why the **** would dhoni want to get banned now?
Depends how the bans work, if after he serves a ban he has to accumulate 3 offences again to get another ban then he might get it out of the way in a dead rubber - as footballers have done in European football when their offences carry over so they get them wiped by getting a ban in a meaningless game.

It doesn't get more ruthless than a 500 run lead with 2 days of play remaining.

Declaring with a lead of 350, and leaving them even a 1% chance of victory is not ruthless, it's stupid.
Yes, they would only have to get another 270 or so to get a 500 lead and depending how the pitch plays and which players get in, England could get that in 65 overs or so going at 4 rpo. I reckon England will be looking at 700 or there abouts.
Even if the Indians bat really well in the second dig, when you're 500 behind it's very demoralizing.

This is an understatement

With the weather forecast looking ominous though, England would want as much time to bowl at them as possible. A lead of 500 seems a bit excessive. They should declare at lead of 400. That is, if they don't get bowled out.

India bowled between 12 and 13 overs an hour for most of the Lords test match.

now that i have had a look at india's overrate yesterday, these posts seem even more ridiculous
what was india's overrate yesterday 8-)

1st session- 22 overs in 1.5 hrs
2nd session - 35 overs in 2.5 hrs
don't know how long they took to bowl the 33 overs in the last session.
was less than 2.5 hrs as when i woke up the match had already finished.

Runs in the bank before the declaration. Im with those that say bat all day tomorrow if possible, maybe give the Indians an hr before close.

2 days to bowl the Indians out should be enough. If England cant do it then 'fine.' The other team is allowed to play well. If they bat 2 days then they will have wiped out a 500+ lead anyway.

Makes no sense to declare early in this situation.

Yeah, no point declaring if you're going to have to bat again anyway. The goal should always be to bat once. A declaration should always have some sort of logical point to it; not just "ehh that should be enough". The only exception of course being:

He won't cop another ban because he'll be rissoled as skipper.

If I remember rightly Sky comms said in the first two tests the overrate for the first was 13 and the 2nd 13.5.
They got them all in today though.
