Currently you'd have to say it'd be Shahzad, who's not having a great season.
What's he? Seventh? Current 3, Tremmers, Finn, Onions? Maybe eighth behind Dernbach now?
Which makes me wonder why Sidebottom is not considered by the selectors. Not too long ago he was England's mister-get-it-right.
Also, Chris Woakes might get into that list sooner or later.
Yeah, as harsh as it is, you can't leave Bres out. 11 wickets at less than 15 apiece in three innings is world class by any estimation. Add in 101 runs to boot.
Adds to the impression Tremmers is just a terribly unlucky player, but those are the breaks.
If Bopara (and/or Morgan) don't get too many runs, and Broad/Bresnan/Swann will, going in with 4 seamers and a spinner might be considered. Should be considered perhaps.
Not sure why its so hilarious to be honest. The thread was created before the start of the series, and there is not much doubt that before this series Broad, given the way hes bowled over his entire career, would not have made very many teams in the world. Lets be honest here, there is simply no precedent for him bowling the way he has this series. He's never managed to string 2 consistent games together all his life and here he is bowling like McGrath for 3 games in a row.
What I like(d) about Broad is that he had many decent, supporting and sometimes ordinary spells, suddenly exchanged for a brilliant spell. IMHO, that's match winning potential! Sure enough, his current form is extraordinary and indeed unprecedented, but I would have picked him anyway. England's attack is the best in the world (before this series), so if Broad made England's team before this series, he would have made any Test country's team.
Don't think you can go too hard at the Indian top-6, the English bowling was really good in the morning session. The dismissals aside, generally good balls following up good bowling (except for Dravid's which was just a jaffa), they made the Indians look tentative and sluggish.
Agree somewaht, but I must emphasize that the dismissals are what cricket is about. The Indian top batsmen should be able to handle some pressure and good bowling and NOT appear to look sluggish and tentative. I think they do deserve some criticism:
-Gambhir out to a loose drive
-Sehwag got out of the way halfheartedly
-Tendulkar could have left that delivery
-Laxman went for the hook, straight too a fielder set there for him.
Yeah, I think if we're still batting at the end of the day then India have a long climb back
I really hope this series offer us a nice twist, but I my money would be on England batting through the day and a good chunk of the 3rd day as well.
