You know something strange is happening when you have a golden set and a 351 minute match in the same day...

Fed went out to $3.4 at 5-6 down in the first set after his injury timeout.

His back looks ****ed though, but so much respect for the way he played vs. Malisse. Just outfoxed him after it was obvious his back was hurt and he couldn't baseline rally all day. Sliced, volleyed etc. and broke back and then took the set.

Just awesome tennis.

Holy **** at the way Ferrer dismantled Del Potro. Not even like Delpo played bad, he served huge and his winner to unforced error ratio was brilliant, its just that he just could not hit through Ferrer, who counterpunched and hit winners like a man possessed.

Getting better with age is Ferrer.

Murray's statement on Ferrer is so true:

"He's a clay court specialist? No, he's not,'' said Murray, after his on-off straight sets defeat of Marin Cilic. "To me he's not a clay court specialist. He won last week on grass, so he's won, what, eight matches in a row on the grass. He's been in the semi-finals of Australia, I think semi-finals of US Open, as well, and now he's starting to play better on grass. I don't see him as a clay court specialist at all.''

I know Murray's been in 3 grand slam finals, but this is seriously one of the most important matches of his career. The draw has opened up for him with Rafa gone, and whilst Ferrer is in seriously scary form, its still Murray's match to lose (particularly if the roof stays open).

As much as I love and rate JMDP, and did not think he'd lose to Ferrer on grass, the one thing Murray has over him is his return of serve. I cannot imagine Ferrer will hold serve as easily as he did vs. JMDP.

This is a big moment for Murray. I think he'll win in 4 sets. But if he doesn't manage to get past the former brick layer, he may go down as one of the biggest bottlers in modern tennis history.

Hardly a bottler when he's had to play Djokovic, in his crazy year to boot, and Federer in the finals he's done brilliantly to reach, and had to play Nadal in most of his semi finals. Its not really his fault that he's comfortably the fourth best player in the world and not particularly close to those both above and below him in the rankings. You'd say he's had less major 'upsets' in Grand Slams than Federer and Nadal recently and he's been really consistent in reaching semis, which you'd say is about the right place for him considering his ranking. Not sure what modern tennis history means either. ;)

Looks like he might be on the way out here, though. Ferrer just in relentless form.

Nah you look at the way he's played in the finals he's reached - sure, he's played Djokovic/Federer etc but he's played pretty rank tennis on his own behalf each time.

His final against Novak in the 2011 Australian Open final was one of the worst performances I've ever seen.

He's part-bottler, but he's also played in a tough era.

Oh and Berdych and Tsonga beat Fed, why can't Murray?

Rosol beat Rafa, why can't Murray?

Yeah he's not played well but he's always been a major underdog. If he'd played well but still lost would he be called a bottler? I think he probably would.

If he gets to a final where he's favourite and screws it up then fair enough, but harsh otherwise imo.

In any case watching Murray as a fan is pretty torturous, always looks like he's behind in the match but finds a way to scrape in front. You don't feel like Ferrer is ever out of this match though, even if he finishes off the third set.

He's also beaten these guys a lot in other tournaments.
