Official **State Of Origin Thread**

I know we have plenty of NRL threads, but I thought we should dedicate a thread to the greatest contest in all football codes and the first Origin is only 3 days away and I for one - AM REALLY EXCITED!

I will be going to the first game at Suncorp Stadium, and will be off my ****, which is a given. I will be there hurling abuse at anything in Blue an cheering the mighty Maroons on. The first bit of major news for the series is that Tonie Carroll is out with a calf muscle injury and has been replaced by fellow Bronco McGuire.

Crocked Carroll is out

My tip for the first game - Qld 100, N.S.W. 0

haha not getting half excited there kyle ;)

like every year its such a great event, game one i think qld will win this year, im tipping a close one as usual 28-24, both teams have lots of tries in them but the home crowd will get us home...

Thanks, Scallywag. Anyways, I can't wait. Wish it was on prime time in Melb. I think I might join Kyle in that sorta "state", hope pubs in Melbourne will show it. Should be great. I'm torn, born in Sydney but all my fave players are with QLD... I'll get back to you later.

I have high hopes for QLD. N.S.W. will be in big trouble if the refereeing doesn't go their way. They only have 2 big men and will lack go forward and their guys will get tired if QLD can get quick play the balls. The reverse can apply to Qld, however I think we have more options if plan A. doesn't work.

Obviously Origin is a big thing over in Oz, but one thing I'd like to know is what is the qualification needed for QLD or NSW (aside from being born there, obv).

As far as I know Thorn & Carroll are both NZ born & Hunt has blown NZ out 'cos he wants to play Origin for QLD, despite being a Kiwi. I'm guessing it's some kinda residential thing? If so, have any players turned out for both? With the distribution of NRL teams a good few QLDers play in NSW.

The qualification for State of Origin is where you played your first senior game, I think that is U/16 onward. It is not where you were born, some great players were born in one state and played for the other; Peter Sterling (NSW) & Paul Bowman (QLD) (not a great, but the only player I can think of apart from Jullian O'Neill). As far as Kiwi & State of Origin goes, I think you can pick and choose who you play for. Both Thorn & Carroll have been over here before they were teenagers (if I am correct) and hunt has been here at an early age too.

Where would that leave anyone who debuts for Melbourne or The Raiders? Same boat as Kiwis?

Melbourne's recruitment base comes from Norths Devils who play in the Queensland Rugby League. Melbourne are yet to foster a development program for players, something the N.R.L. should look at (IMO). I'm not too sure on the quality of Victorian Rugby League competitions, but I'm pretty sure if you are playing Rugby League in Melbourne at an early age you will be scouted by a N.S.W. N.R.L. side or a QLD league side meaning whichever team you end up with will determine your eligibility.

I can't believe Origin is already here!

Really looking forward to tomorrow nights game. I think QLD's larger pack will tire near the end of the match, that's when NSW will capatilize (I hope).

Should be great to watch whatever the result.

Theres actually three victorian high schools that have rugby league as their number 1 sport now. apparently the kids got a taste for it and demanded it over AFL, the victorian government is actually pumping cash into the game down there too now...

canberra considered part of nsw territory for SOO

Super 12 final will be one sided though..

I support QLD in SOO.. I don't know why it is considering I am a kiwi but I am so passionate about QLD it is barely believable. I shouldn't really feel anything for them but I just do.

NSW will win it pretty easy, i think it will be close for the first 60 minutes and then we will run all over them. I can't see them lasting the 80 minutes as well as our forwards. NSW 21 beat QLD 8

That is right.

A 15 year old Melbourne junior (ie came up through the MJRL) got scouted by Newcastle and signed for them. Jake Webster and I think Jeremy Smith are the only Stormers born in Melbourne.

Yeah man, Im thinking it will be pretty much like that. Will be a replay of the Cowboys v Broncos match a fortnight ago. NSW will concentrate on sticking with us in the first half; play at a break neck speed; then floor it in the last 20 minutes. Oh how I would love to be wrong!

Arnt we nice people? Everyone hates everyone else.. Happy days.

I wish I could get involved in State of Origin, it looks like an absolute blast. Alas, supporting either State would be quite disgusting.
