Panadura will be kicking themselves for not declaring earlier as it cost them a spot in the top flight. Saracens just made it through with a few extra bounus points.

All pretty even with two top teams in all groups and two average sides. B might be the hardest depending and which Sebastianites turns up.

Some very interesting games, with all team that batted 2nd winning the matches. Also a lot of low scoring games, a sign that Twenty20 isn't just a batsmen game. Only one high scoring game between Colombo and Saracens, where Jehan Muburak showed he knows what side of the bat to use. Probably more of sign of the crap bowling from Saracens really. In truth the low scoring matches were more to do with poor batting and the gap in standard between the top and bottom sides.

Wow, they sure don't waste time with that Twenty20 tournament.

Sinhalese have lost two on the trot now. Were 83/9 chasing 103, got to 100/9 with an over remaining before a run out. Shouldn't be possible with a line-up of A Gunawardene (2), Nuwan Zoysa (3), Kaushal Silva (4) and Lokuarachchi (5) IMO. Komasaru and Chandana bowled out the Army, so Nondescripts have won group A.

Tamil Union chased down 173 with ease against Panadura. Looks like they thumped sixes on a small ground. 96 not out for veteran Bathiya Perera for Moors. Looks like he was a decent batsman back in the day, so it's Moors v Tamil Union in that group.

And Chilaw (they were international Twenty20 winners a couple of years ago?) won by one hundred and thirteen runs in Group D. Solid.

A lot of Sinhalese back up players have been taken by other clubs, as they offered pretty good money and 1st team spot. In the past the Sinhalese 2nd XI side would be better then most 1st XI sides. Also Rangama the side that beat them are one of the better sides in Sri Lanka now, boasting quite a few Sri Lankan internationals.

The big surprise has been the fact that Colombo have also lost two on the trot. The two favorites for the title are both out.

After it was decided that Sri Lanka A players will now get contracts the selectors changed the sqaud for the Bangleadesh A Series. I guess they felt some guys weren't worth getting paid. The big changes was the fact that Upul Chandana and Chamara Kapugedara got brought into the squad. As well as the change in captaincy with Thilan Samaraweera (capt) and Malinda Warnapura (vc) taking over the captaincy from Jehan Muburak. I guess they also felt he wasn't worth the extra money required for a captain. Interesting developments as it seems we might be taking Sri Lanka A Cricket more seriously with more money involved. A good move overall as it mean that more players can make a better living out of cricket.

Well i might make this thread also the thread for the Sri Lanka A and Bangladesh A Series, as to boys from Bangladesh seem to have forgot about it after their World Cup heroics.

Teams selected:

Sri Lanka A: MG Vandort, ML Udawatte, BSM Warnapura, TT Samarawerra (c), CH Kapugedera, J Mubarak, JK Silva (wk), UDU Chandana, MKDI Amerasinghe, WCA Ganegama, WRS de Silva

Bangladesh A: Tushar Imran (c) , Khaled Mashud (wk), Mehrab Hossain jnr, Enamul Haque jnr, Jahurul Islam, Mahmudullah, Nazimuddin, Nadif Chowdhury, Nazmul Hossain, Talha Jubair, Saghir Hossain

We are into Lunch on the 2nd Day, Sri Lanka A batted first and are 4/455 so far. There was a big partnership between Samarawerra (162) and Waranapura (242), where they put 376 for the third wicket. Bangladesh are starting to make a comeback after dismissing both Samarawerra and Waranapura. Kapugedera and Muburak are at the crease at present.

This is almost exactly the same as what happened in the first 'Test' played in Bangladesh last year, where Warnapura and Jehan Mubarak destroyed Bangladesh A on the opening day.

A really disappointing showing from Bangladesh A there, although I can't really understand why only one specialist spinner has been picked - Enamul Haque jnr (although that may have something to do with Manjural Islam Rana's death). Mahmudullah is a bits and pieces ODI all-rounder really.

I guess given the circumstances, that Bangladesh A are playing is a positive.

With the re-vamped competition ther will be no semis or finals, so Colombo CC are the champions and were the best team by a long way this season. Colts finished runners up.

Unless they change the struture of championship again then the top 6 teams in the P&R group qualify for next season Div 1. That means its basically a battle between Saracens, SL Army and Panadura for regulation. 14 sides to too much for competitive Div One, but you can't do much when there is 21 sides and they want to help the lower sides improve not increase the gap. It does seem though ever season there is another competitive sides that comes through, this season was Lankan CC, so hopefully they can keep on improving next season in Div One.

Looking at Bangladesh A bowling attack they don't look that strong apart from Enamul Haque jnr. Both Nazmul Hossain and Talha Jubair have struggled at international level and their domestic records don't look great. Nazmul Hossain bowled really well on the first day. Probably should have gone with a specialist seamer or spinner instead of Mahmudullah. Is Abdul Razzaq in the Windies?

Also im a bit surprised at your batting performances, the pitch is meant to be a flat tracker and pace attack pretty average. Bangladesh's batting line up also look quite good.

The big positive from a Sri Lankan point of view is the performance of Warnapura, he really is killing it at this level. Its going to take some big performances from Kapugedera, Dilshan and Samarawerra in this series to keep him out of the No 6 spot next Test Series. I was a bit worried the vice captaincy might effect his batting, but it could be a positive.

Jahurul Islam is keeping in place of Khaled Mashud. That's not too bad an effort against an attack that includes Ganegama and Lokuarachchi.

After getting smashed in the two "Tests" I expect Bangladeh A will be a lot more competitive in the limited over clashes, with some pretty decent players like Farhad Reza, Tushar Imran and Mehrab Hossain playing it has strengthened their batting significantly, which is what let them down in the "Tests".

Very good total against a bowling attack including ODI players like Lokuarachchi and Ganegama like you said JJ. However, with a batting lineup that includes classy players such as Kapugedara, Mubarak and Vandort it may not be enough. It would do Enamul Haque's chances no harm if he had a few good games here.

Sri Lanka A ended up winning this game, Lokuarachchi and Kapugedara scored most of the runs while Dilruwan Perera (List A avearge of 15) was promoted to open the batting and scored a quickfire 50. Farhad Reza was about the only one who performed in the bowling attack, although Enamul Haque jr was economical in the context of the game.
