Ahh

Video evidence is clear that Chandimal took something out of his pocket and put it in his mouth, then used the saliva to soak the ball.

That's what the umpires took him up on.

Chandimal has pleaded not guilty, but the video evidence of this is quite clear.

If it’s as clear as you suggest I’m sure migara will be straight in here to apologise for his previous posts.

Doing it once may be co-incidence. The issue is doing it once is it enough to change the condition of the ball? And to day we saw how tapes in bats have made the ball sticky, same effect as sweets. I don't think it is that much clear. If there was definite intentions, Chandimal would have not contested the charges.

O ****! Rain! SL should be penalised for wasting 2 hours of the game. WI should be declared winners if we have a draw.

wow, lots of comments on here about us deliberately cheating...I haven't seen much of this match so cant say whats happened however, I did see a clip showing that Gunner Gould asked to check the palms of DDS and didn't find anything wrong but then overnight, 5 penalty runs were added and the ball changed? I don't understand how anyone can be accused of cheating without the proper evidence? Then I notice people have commented that Chandimal was seen eating a sweet and applying saliva to the ball. Was this after the initial situation with the umpires or a separate incident?

I also see that chandimal has denied any wrongdoing today and pleaded not guilty to the offence laid against him. Lets get this straight, I don't want anyone who is cheating representing my country so IF there is conclusive proof, then he should be punished severely.

Back to the actual match, I am pleased with the efforts of Kumara, Rajitha and also Kusal M. I really cant see how Kusal P is in this team ( I rate him for the shorter format ) and simply don't understand what Kaushal Silva did wrong...

Loving the knock from Mendis I believe he’s the heir to sanga/jaya and not Chandimal or Matthews

Oh yes, because they're really going to throw that hissy fit and refuse to play then turn round and say "actually I did do it" aren't they? 8-)

Tbh i don't even care whether SL did it or not. What we do know is that they threw a hissy fit and deprived the few who turned out to watch this match of two hours. Sure as hell know this could never occur in india or australia. But i do believe in karma.

The last time a Windies fast bowler took 11 wickets in a match was 13 years ago?

Our current bowling coach, Corey Colleymore was the man as he took 11/134

Gabriel's 11/116 is the 7th best bowling figures by a Windies bowler

He is in the company of Walsh, Ambrose, Marshall, Roberts, and Holding

And his bowling average is finally closer to 30 than 40. Hope he can get it below 30 by the end of the series. Imo sub 30 as a bowler=40+ for a batsman ie good

Sri Lanka need to declare overnight. If WI can chase down 290 on a 5th day wicket then well done to them.

And this will effectively ban chewing gums or sweets during the matches.
I have a theory if this is done you will see fielding quality worldwide will plummet to levels not even seen even by Pakistan on a bad day.

I don't understand what the problem here is

In the SA Vs Aus game, the umpires were informed by the third umpire to check if the Aussies were tampering. On the field, they found no evidence, they were satisfied that the ball didn't look tampered with, and so no penalty was applied.

Once the news broke out, you could make a case that they could possibly retroactively award 5 penalty runs and change the ball, but the law doesn't apply for an attempt to change the condition of the ball. It applies when the balls condition has actually been changed. So not doing anything on account of feeling no damage done on the ball is fine
You're not usually this dumb unless you're actively avoiding the issue. The point is simple - a ball that we know was tampered with, was checked by on field umpires and they failed to detect anything. So what exactly is their process here in determining ball tampering? When there we know for a fact that ball tampering happened, Umpires have no clue. When there's not a shred of video evidence, umpires have an issue with the ball.

I don't think umpires should rely on video evidence for this; they shouldn't be at the mercy of what a home broadcaster chooses to show to the rest of the world.
In addition, a bad precedent should not be the justification for closing one's eyes to the possibility of unfair play; the umpires need to crack down - hard - on this kind of nonsense. Crucifying the umpire in 2006 was a historical blunder.

Whether the ball was tampered with, and whether the ball has been significantly altered unfairly, are 2 completely different things.

They can both happen, or either 1 can by itself.
