Another poor performance first day of a Test match from SA.... I was overall quite impressed with the SL batting. Gave a few wickets away early, but batted solidly since. Dhananjaya injury truly unfortunate.

Sri Lanka batted well, I give them that

Hasaranga didn't play it like a chap who averages 42 in FC cricket, I think it's fair to say.
As I said ear;iler, FC averages don't mean much when our batsmen are put on a pacy track. Infact people who average lesser in FC, but has better techniques against pace may prosper.

Wow, well done Sri Sri Lanka. They have really dominated SA in recent years (the one team NZ has never beaten in a test series).

SL were great today after the shocking shots in the morning. Really like watching de Silva bat. Hope he is okay.

For SA I really think this was another eye opener. Rabada would have carried the attack to an extent if he were there, but they all have a long way to go. Mulder was really good.

SL just keep overperforming in South Africa, something that really surprises me as SA is arguably the hardest place in the world to bat against fast bowling and the batsmen don't excel in Aus/Eng/NZ.

SA's achilles heel? Similar to West Indies against England.

I mean the overperformances only really started in 2019? After de Villiers, Amla, Morkel, Steyn and Philander all either retired or were in terminal decline. It's even worse in this Test as Rabada's not playing.

Yes though that's still overperforming imo - I wouldn't generally expect SL to win a single test in South Africa and the bowling attack they did it against last time was still pretty good.

Oh yeah I don't disagree with that, Sri Lanka in particular were disgraceful when they toured here. But I do wonder how the other Asian sides would do in South Africa now.

Also that bowling attack looks disgraceful from Sri Lanka.

There was a graphic yesterday which showed South Africa had 1 test win since 2019 and were statistically the second worst test side going. Their prominence ended in 2018.

Sri Lanka have a winning total already. South Africa only have a chance if the Sri Lankan quicks do a Lutho Sipamla. On Lutho, we may even see him again next week. South Africa will most likely drop Maharaj, who will be bowling 50%+ of their overs in the innings defeats against Pakistan next month, if they lose this, then underprepare the wicket at Jo’Burg and pray they win the toss and not go down like they did against India.
