Sri Lanka batted well, I give them thatAnother poor performance first day of a Test match from SA.... I was overall quite impressed with the SL batting. Gave a few wickets away early, but batted solidly since. Dhananjaya injury truly unfortunate.
As I said ear;iler, FC averages don't mean much when our batsmen are put on a pacy track. Infact people who average lesser in FC, but has better techniques against pace may prosper.Hasaranga didn't play it like a chap who averages 42 in FC cricket, I think it's fair to say.
I mean the overperformances only really started in 2019? After de Villiers, Amla, Morkel, Steyn and Philander all either retired or were in terminal decline. It's even worse in this Test as Rabada's not playing.SL just keep overperforming in South Africa, something that really surprises me as SA is arguably the hardest place in the world to bat against fast bowling and the batsmen don't excel in Aus/Eng/NZ.
SA's achilles heel? Similar to West Indies against England.
Oh yeah I don't disagree with that, Sri Lanka in particular were disgraceful when they toured here. But I do wonder how the other Asian sides would do in South Africa now.Yes though that's still overperforming imo - I wouldn't generally expect SL to win a single test in South Africa and the bowling attack they did it against last time was still pretty good.
which record? Also, Dickwella was one run short of outright claiming Chahals record
There was a graphic yesterday which showed South Africa had 1 test win since 2019 and were statistically the second worst test side going. Their prominence ended in 2018.SL just keep overperforming in South Africa, something that really surprises me as SA is arguably the hardest place in the world to bat against fast bowling and the batsmen don't excel in Aus/Eng/NZ.
