Saf didn't really bowl that long yday to make the rest argument, was a very brief innings and tbh I'd be impressed if Srl made that 280 score when they do bat.

Whether the seamers, strictly speaking, needed the rest isn't the issue here.

They had the opportunity to give them the rest, and could still have more than two full days to bowl out a side that they've just bowled out in 40 overs.

There always seems to be this obsession about following on that I've never quite understood.

Has there been a batsman who aesthetically was more pleasing than JP Duminy and averaged less than him? 30 of the easiest on the eye runs you could see and then he misses a ball which shouldn’t be missed.

Good question, nobody comes immediately to mind.

If he had a full FC career he would be averaging 60+

Dunno why he can't perform in test cricket.

Number 3 struggling, number 4 with a career average sub 35 and a number 6 who has a highest score of 21 in last 6 test innings. Changes should be made for Joburg.

Won't happen.

But I wouldn't mind seeing De Bruyn get a run in the Test side.

Just saw Andrew Samson tweeted that Rabada is second-youngest Saffa to get to 50 Test wickets after Paul Adams.

I can't think of anyone. Yet, there are more batsmen with aesthetically pleasing techniques, lacking a great average. Ian Bell comes to mind. And there are those who do things the opposite way. Shiv Chanderpaul, to name one.

Graeme Smith is another.

Captaincy doing wonders for Faf. Averaging over 65 with a decent S/R since becoming skipper.

Bell averages 43-44 doesn't he? Think that is pretty good.
Yeah, but judging from his technique, he should average closer to 50 or even 50+. Maybe my view is a bit clouded, since I've always been somewhat of a Bell-fan.

Anyway, in test cricket, shot selection and concentration are probably just as important as talent and technique.

True. But looks like Rilee might be giving up on getting a shot with SA and is looking to the UK.
Think Rillee will hang on, he has become a fixture in the LO stuff and should play quite a bit over the next 6 months (barring injury)
.
