Fleming gone just short of his 50. Vettori looking good. Hopefully Franklin can score a similar amount with the bat.

Fleming, Vettori, Cumming all given few lives by the Umps.

Murali, Malinga and Vaas unlucky more than a few times.

If NZ get a significant lead , they have to thank Taufel and Jerling for their generosity.

I will have no problem as long as they do the same when SL bat.
What rubbish. If Murali wants lbws he should bowl from around the wicket.

Edit: Having pointed that out, he got given one anyway. Where are your "generous" umpires now?

Well Murli bowled so good today, and he just owned the Kiwi. Game on here, would be surprised if this match doesn't get a result, but there is no one side in this game. It can go either way.

In a low scoring game such as this even a lead of 50 would be a match winning one, and NZ well on their way to that despite SL getting some wickets.
how many were turned down Jason?

Yeah, agreed. Looks to be a tough test so far. A result is definite.

Astle = out. Taylor = in.

Clearly Astle is out of form. Watching him for all of 2 balls today, he looked like he just wanted to get back and relax on those lazy boys.

Ryder is in good form too but Taylor must now be considered for the 2nd test...people are going to be surprised that NZ have finally found a couple of naturally gifted batsmen.

Presuming Mills is fit for the ODI's i'd have this team. I'd also play Vettori for the first 2 ODI's and if all is going well, i'd leave him out of the squad and play Patel for the last 3.

In order:

McCullum
Ryder
Fleming
Astle
Taylor
Styris
Oram
Vettori
Mills
Bond
Mason

good batting depth + Bond, Mason, Mills, Vettori, Oram, Styris & Astle to bowl..plus Ryder can be pretty handy if required.
Astle is clearly struggling against the new ball, so maybe he is better off down at #4 or #5.
thoughts?

1.5 Martin to Jayasuriya, SIX, trademark Jayasuriya, memories of the 1996 World Cup come to mind, short and wide outside off stump, Jayasuriya cuts it - nothing more than a short arm jab - over the man at deep point

Crap just when he was looking ok. Come on no middle order collaspe boys, lets give Murali something to defend.

Another brilliant catch by Fleming! He's equal with Border in terms of catches now.

Great stuff by Franklin. NZ on a roll!
