Given how long Rutherford stayed in the side for his 150, and given that Latham and Guptill appear to have an understanding when it comes to running between the wickets (and that's got to be worth 3-5 runs per partnership), it looks like Guptill is here to stay as a Test opener for at least a couple of years. If he goes big again in this series you can lock it in.

WI going down the gurgler and the talk is of them disbanding and playing as individual nations, and in this match the soporific pitch and the half rat power bowling are making me long for the ODI's. Agree that this pitch is rubbish though. The kind of surface that should get a citing from the match ref. Uni Oval just gets lower and slower the longer you play on it, really struggle to see us winning this.
