Bracewell is the safest option as he can use the old bowl, bats and has Test match experience. Henry is probably better to cover Southee/Boult as he is the most proficient with the new ball. Milne if he can keep injury free is hopefully the long term 3rd quick.

Mathews really should be at #4. They would have us under so much more pressure if Thirimanne wasn't pissing around after the initial need to consolidate. There's a difference between being conservative and digging a hole. Karu has been conservative, but Thiri dug a hole.

If his scoring shots are so high risk then he shouldn't be in the team.

When he plays them freely in ODIs they come off well and he makes runs, he just needs the confidence to play them, he's got to be the most frustrating young talent we have.

And yeah he dug a bit of a hole but the way Matthews is playing now probably wouldn't have been possible had Thirimanne not stuck around that long and blunted the attack, was still a decent contribution in tough circumstances

Well he should be in the team.. Dickwella has no business being in as a specialist bat with a 31 FC average but it's beating a dead horse at this point. Chandimal is probably even more frustrating - talented but prone to ugly slogs more often than not.

Probably has the best defensive technique against pace in the team, just lacks scoring options and confidence to a debilitating level at times, is indeed in our best XI atm by default

You're pretty much talking about the greatest match save in SL cricket history there..

I think in NZ's point of view they just need 1 more wicket.. with no Chandimal none of the remaining batsman are going to last that long. Prasanna can guts it out maybe but I doubt that's enough to survive another day.
