Good work Watling, not letting the advantage swing back towards the Lankans.

I wonder if the Lankans will be fined for this effort too, 20 overs behind.

I wonder if NZ plans to declare early tomorrow, in order to get use of the pitch while it's still fresh. Even Watling is bordering on cbf behaviour at the moment.

They have Ishant ahead of Philander though. Like seriously.
It's because Philander had an incredible first 2 years in Test cricket which is discounted (so a newbie doesn't get to #1 so fast) and then has tapered off (averaging 42 this year). while Ishant for all his rubbishness has had a decent 2014 (averaging <30)..

Philander's ranked #42 all-time career though:

cricinfo twitter earlier:

Brendon McCullum in his last two Test innings: 22 sixes.

Only 10 other New Zealand batsman have hit as many in their entire career.

Over rate. If he didn't bowl the spinner then SRL wouldn't even be able to get to the 2nd new ball by the end of the day.

Neesh goes. We need at least 500.

Things will slow down now with Jimmy's departure. But we will still truck along at 4 an over until Tim comes in. I don't think Tim listens to instructions.

Another similarity with Adelaide 2012, where the captain has to just keep bowling the bloke who is getting the most tap.

Now that there's nobody trying to hit him for 6, this Kaushal fellow looks pretty handy.

Haven't seen much of Neesham but he's had a great start to Test cricket.. how good is he? Is he lucky to have a 47+ average?
