Craig is barely getting more turn than what he did in the first innings. He's got what it takes to take wickets in most conditions.

He is a pretty odd bowler, drift and flight are certainly his biggest weapons, but he can also get a moderate amount of turn.It's weird, I still don't think Craig is a very good bowler, but clearly I'm wrong. He seems to take wickets.
Definitely handy but nothing special at all. His record so far has been a legacy of getting ignored or belted for 5 innings, and then wins us a match.

Incredible to see Vettori didn't even get close in the 2000s. I suppose since he relied on beating batsmen in the air as opposed to off the pitch, the pitch wasn't ever much a factor for him.

Can't watch it from work, were those a couple of vintage Vettori-esque straightbreaks? (beating the right-hander on the outside, lefty on the inside?)

DO NOT GET ME STARTED...
...but seriously. We both watched cricket in the 00s. We both know that a complete failure by D.L. Vettori to take match-winning wickets is far from incredible.

Admittedly I'm a big fan of his but I think this is harsh. One of the major reasons he got picked in the first place is because he's got a lot of the raw ability we'd like to see in our ideal spinner. He gets more turn than probably any other finger spinner in the country. As a long term prospect he's a great option imo, especially as Sodhi is still developing.

Yes, well, I should have qualified that by saying 'incredible' (but not really).... The irony with Vettori is I think he was actually better in the 1st innings.

His batting can't be discounted either, and he's a pretty damn good hand in the slips. All in all, a pretty good replacement for Vettori with the added ability to take wickets when conditions suit due to the added spin he puts on the ball, he's also had a happy knack of bowling us to fourth innings victories which is all you want your spinner to do.

To be fair to Vettori, there were quite a few times he simply didn't get to bowl in the second innings due to the other side not needing it.
538 overs in the fourth innings of a match versus at least 1200 in any other innings.

Think the NZ camp is looking very closely at what Australia have done with Lyon. In particular, how Aus have backed Lyon, given him responsibility but also support and played him in nearly all conditions and now he's getting results. I expect to see the same with Craig, whether we like it or not.
Craig's batting and slip fielding an important bonus too.
