Its a bad joke in more ways than one. Its a scary thought. :-O

I would any day have Sunil Manohar Gavaskar or even Mama Gavaskar play for India. Please not this kind of dark humour :@

Nah, got to be the man who's critical 14* on the second day averted a total collapse, before he took 2 crucial wickets.

Congratulations to India !! :clapping: :clapping:

SL were pretty crap and struggling all the way through and behind the eight ball all the way through .

Unfortunately the quality of players and depth is lacking unlike the large number of quality players in the wings for India and other countries. The last 2 coaches we've had unfortunately have contributed (or remained as onlookers) to the Team's lack of confidance and the Captaincy needs to be sorted. Atapattu is a good Test batsman but definitely not test captaincy material. IMO he is by far the weakest SL Captain I've known.

The Captaincy needs to move on. A new Coach will need to be found after the summer tours , as Tom Moody is definitely out of his depth here , like Dyson.

SL cricket performances have really declined under the latter 2, and the coaches have both been out of their Depth at this level, IMO.

BREAKING NEWS !! Ganguly Dropped. Jaffer in the side for third test

Well done.

It was a tough one as I have been saying but a compromise of playing a non regular opener would have shown up the establishment as week.

Tough luck for Ganguly but in a toss up between him and Yuvraj, I suppose it was Yuvraj's fielding which may have won him the day.

Ganguly has done just enough to stay in the reckoning and could come in again to replace any laggards in the middle order.

Lets see now if Jaffer is played or is he there to avoid the kind of emergency they had at Delhi if either of the other two is down. He may well be a stand by. But it makes sense to have one stand by who is an opener. we already have Kaif as a middle order standby.

This new dispensation has yet to do anything silly or emotional or unprofessional.

Good show.

yeah. I do hope, and feel that its not The End for Gangs. Hes been far too good a player to have this become his exit from International cricket. He'll be back.

Jaffers selection is a wierd decision. Maybe its an indication that Sehwag isnt 100% yet.

Dont see anything on cricinfo. Any changes in the bowling dept ?

No. The news item only mentioned Ganguly.

If they make a change in the 11 it wont be known. So RP or Murali Karthik can still play since they are in the squad but no Zaheer obviously.

Again makes sense. How can you have RP sitting on the bench for two matches and then play Zaheer before him without even trying RP.

Really hope so too. He played Murali beautifully in the second innings and was showing great application.

And don't tell me we're going to pick Agarkar again 'cause of those two wickets after looking pathetic the rest of the match. :@

Very appropriate title - thought provoking article

Sad But Right says Sambit Bal (cricinfo) of Ganguly's non-inclusion.

When the emotional response has subsided one will see the truth in it.

Excerpts

You wished for a better farewell for a man who will be recognised, when emotions recede and a more detached assessment can be made, as India's ballsiest leader till his time. Stripped off captaincy, he did all that he could have done as a mere soldier in the Delhi Test. His batting wasn't spectacular but his 40 and 39 were vital contributions at delicate junctures of the match.

Though he did play cover drives of familiar elegance, he was not majestic. Runs didn't come easy on a turgid pitch, and he fought hard, playing watchfully against Muttiah Muralitharan and dead straight against Chaminda Vaas.

It is difficult not to feel sorry for Ganguly.

However, the decision must be viewed with cold logic, and with an eye on the future. India have an aging batting line-up. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Ganguly are all past 30. Of these, Tendulkar and Dravid can be expected to go on a bit longer. But Indian cricket can't afford a huge vacuum in the top order. Yuvraj Singh has been around in international cricket for five years, and he is ready to make the transition to Test cricket. India needs to know if he can sustain his performance in Test cricket and for that he needs to be given a run.
