I guess it is a good thing that the match was washed out... Who knows what would have happened had we had a full match on that track and Indians playing that type of cricket?
Whilst India played like crap, and SL showed a lot of fight I wouldn't take too much from those couple of days. The main disappointment for me was India letting Vaas get back confidence. After mauling him in the ODIs, by playing him well again for the rest of the test would have ensured India stay on top of him.

Here's another angle to the Indians' ultra-defensive batting– they were 'spying' rather than attacking. They were looking at every single delivery bowled, purely to make the job easier for someone recording Vaas, Murali and the others– and analysing the deliveries themselves. They may actually attack in the next match.

They could also simply record, tape, tivo, dvr the dam game and watch it that way too ya know.

Another DUMB stupidity by the Lankan selectors.

I was hoping that their other stupid selection Mubarak would have been sent in to see how dismally he failed again, but then again he is being protected and mollycoddled by the powers that be !!
Gunawardene is such a joke, seriously which SL selector has he been in ***ual congress with for the better part of the last decade?

Mubarak too, why the hell did they send him?

Where was Lassith Malinga?

Anyway, it was nice to see the boys put in a decent performance.

Thats what I want to know. Haven't ever seen the guy in action.
lasith is in the squad. he just didn't play in the first match. he's sure to play in the second. I think the sri lankans didn't want to expose him to the indians in the first match. he'll be the surprise package in the second match. :D

how can it effect the recording of the bowler when the batsman is attacking?

India will easily win this series in all probability, But I feel India's Big Test will come when they face up to their Arch Rivals Pakistan . If they can beat Pakistan convincingly at home, they have legitimate claims to be number 2 in the world ahead of England IMHO (having already beaten them in Pakistan).

Sehwag a doubt for the second Test apparently.

Who would come in if he misses out?
Now even Dravid is down. It maybe the flu. If so, in comes Yuvraj for sure but who will open. I hope they dont take a non regular opener just because he is in the fifteen.

Sehwag and Dravid have easily been our two best batsman over the past 18 months. This is shocking, and I really hope Dravid plays because losing both of them would be such a shock to the batting line-up.

If Sehwag is the only player to miss-out, I hope they bring in an opener as SJS said. If Dravid too does not play, clearly Yuvraj or Kaif comes in, and on form it seems Yuvraj has the backing.

I must pose this question though. If Sehwag AND Dravid don't play... who captains the side? :-O

What's the venue for the next test to be held?

I've no idea about cricket now a days, I've been out of the loop for so long...

Latest news is that Dravid will probably play (phew) but Sehwag won't...it'll be interesting to see who comes in to open.

Damn, Sri Lankan's must be re-joicing today :p
Don't feel too confident about indian team now, Sehwag and Dravid have been carrying the team for a while now and if both of them aren't too well. We could struggle big time.
Dravid looks like is goin to play but lets hope he isn't affected by flu too much and still able to fully concentrate on his batting and more importantely his captaincy.

don't even think like that....that will be the most uncomfortable captain-coach situation ever....

A bit late to answer that question now but if Dravid hadnt been declared fit, with Sehwagmissing, I have no doubt whatsoever that Kumble would have led the side.
