Just because he is strokeless does not make him a choice for the tests. We have seen
how pathetic they turned out to be in the cases of Akash Chopra,SS Das etc. He lacks both
the class and temparament to be part of the test cricket. (Pls. refer his FC average)
and also the selectors did a wise job in selecting Yuvraj over Kaif in tests for Zim.
but i would say Venugopala should be the first choice now for the tests in case there
is a vacancy in the test side.
Yuvraj was a better choice in tests? Are you serious. The same Yuvraj that was an absolute bunny against Australia, whilst Kaif who scored two half-centuries when India had their backs to the wall?

Yeah that is a joke. Yuvraj isn't going to succeed unless playing mediocre bowling, and when it comes to quality spin, he's clueless. I'd much rather Kaif than Yuvraj.

Good point. In a limited-overs series in SL, e repeatedly ran over Ponting's arm, only to get run-out.

Whatever it takes!!!
While I think Kaif is a better bet in tests than Yuvraj, I think Yuvraj can still make a good test batsman, not someone who only does well against mediocre attacks. He scored a 100 against Shoaib and Kaneria, something even Sachin hasn't done yet. ;) :D But seriously, I think you guys are giving Yuvraj too little credit. He has done well at test level. Juz because he is not potentially as good as Kaif doesn't mean he is no good.

Yuvraj's problems are purely temperamental. He's actually a good player of spinners, and may be a very good bet in Tests.

If he uses his brain......but that's not going to happen with ultra-prolonged ODI exposure and few FC matches played. I mean, how many FC matches does he usually play when he's a regular in ODIs?

Sree Santh should try to avoid over experimenting while bowling and Pathan needs to get more control, he is simply too expensive for a strike bowler.
They should experiment as much as possible in the nets. However, it doesn't matter if they're too expensive, as long as they get that extra wicket. That's why you need attacking bowlers.

Straying outside the leg side when an off side field is set means nothing except being smashed for four and letting the pressure off the batsmen. So he does need control. There is talent but he is raw.

India will have 7 solid batsmen in Sehwag, Tendulkar, Gambhir, Kaif, Dravid, Yuvraj & Raina for Baroda, but some will certainly have to be left out. I'd say we should rest Sehwag, considering Tendulkar and Dravid have been rested already, and Gambhir, Yuvraj, Raina need to prove themselves more, and Kaif has just come back into the team.

For the bowling, we should probably go with Pathan, RP Singh, Agarkar and Harbhajan, along with Yadav as all-rounder.

my lineup:
G Gambhir, S Tendulkar, M Kaif (vc), R Dravid (c), Y Singh, MS Dhoni(+), JP Yadav, I Pathan, A Agarkar, H Singh, RP Singh, SuperSub - S Raina

If India bowls first, we should bring in Raina at some point to field and bowl some overs so we can get an idea of his bowling utility. When India bats, Raina should be sent in earlier to give him a better opportunity to make a big knock.

The only worry I have about resting Sehwag is that I'd like him to at least get a 50, if not an 80+ under his name going into the SA series. Yuvraj got given enough time and got a good innings in, but he looked garbage the 5 previous games. Sehwag has looked in good nick, but he's just not gone on with his starts. He may be able to on Saturday. I don't know who else to rest though.

  • Tendulkar
  • Dravid (C)
  • Yadav (RM)
  • Irfan (LFM)
  • Dhoni (WK)
  • Harbhajan (OB)
  • Sreesanth (RFM)
  • RP Singh (LFM)

Yuvraj should play again seeing as he scored well in the last game. If he fails again, that one knock wouldn't really cement his spot, but rather keep it up in the air. Other than that I have no problem with that team. Agarkar has averaged 21.20 with the ball this series, so I think he can rest for the 7th ODI and allow RP and Sree Santh to play alongside Pathan. Yadav deserves another go. I don't know who Dravid should come in for though. I think Yuvraj needs another game, but if they rest him then so be it.

Yuvraj may be a supersub, but if they lose the toss and field first, he may not get to bat.

I understand that Gambhir is being rested. This is crazy. He played just two innings and that too after such a long time, did well and....

I have thought a lot about why and cant find a valid reason. Hope and pray it isnt what I suspect

SL heading towards another bid defeat at 5/135 after 37 overs.

Great bowling by RP Singh (and poor batting by the SL top order -as if that was a surprise) :D .

I would be very surprised if Dhoni and Singh don't make it into the Indian Test Team.

Atapattu and Arnold involved in a good partnership .
But too many wickets down already and too lower run rate for this point in the innings.

If they are lucky may make 250 . But that should take under 40 overs for India to make it in when Tendulkar ,Dhoni, Dravid, Sehwag and co get stuck in. :D

I see the world's greatest living all-rounder is going nuts with the bat at the moment - IKP taking Fernando to the cleaners.

Regardless , he is developing into a great pinch hitter for India.

6-1 is an absolutely whipping and Test series likely to head the same way unless some of the SL batsman recover some of their lost form.

SL have quite a few ODI tours coming after this and going by this performance, anything less than a 3-0 whipping in NZ and 8-0 whipping by Australia and SA would be an improvement from this !! :D
