And now Colliingwood's started to send down wides as well ...ffs ....

The saddest thing about all this is that, as obnoxiuos as Goughie is, you can't argue that he'd do a better job than nearly all of the guys currently playing.

EDIT
Talking of wides, htf does an offspinner send down a couple?
He'd do a better job than Mahmood... but then most would, but we'd also have Gough's somewhat laboured fielding. Doubt he'd do any better than the rest tho as far as overall contribution is concerned.

Another Dalrymple wide...

Is that 3 he's sent down now? Unbelievable. What does he do for a living?

Clearly it's all got too much for Strauss. If you've called the final power play, surely that is exactly the time not to bring back Mahmood. Apparently not ...

That's the joy of watching England's odious side. Just when you think they can't get any worse, they go and prove you wrong every time.

Langer's got some technical issues himself imo. He isn't anywhere near as good a player of spin as Sehwag and Hayden are and looking at his style it's easy to see why.
In the purest sense of the word, the specialist opener's purpose isn't to be a quality player of spin. He has one prime responsibility, and that is to make life easier for those who follow (that's why you play your 'best' batsmen at 3-4-5). He is there to play the part of a brick wall, play straight, score in the 'V' and let others who follow 'cash in' when the shine's gone.

For me, of all the openers in the last 10 years, Langer is the only one who at times came close to the greatest of them all in that all-important aspect of the game over the last 40 years - Geoff Boycott.

If you want someone to bat for your life (at the top of the innings), Langer might well be your man. If you want someone to score vast quantites of elegant runs or to bludgeon boundaries, then choose any one of the others.

Anyway as has been said this was an absolutely dumb time to have a power play... 2 of SL's 3 best batsmen in and set...

Plus langer has always had a problem with taking his eye off the short balls aswell
In the last couple of years he got very twitchy, but I never really noticed it before. He always seemed ready to 'wear' one for the team.

I think Harmison really got inside his head last year.

As Bresnan disappears to all parts of South London, I think we should find out what are the highest oneday scores ever conceded by England, since you can't see this one being under 350 at present rate. We're unquestionably looking at the weakest oneday "attack" we've ever fielded.

... and our 2 least experienced quicks on. Not clever thinking, surely.

EDIT
Make that rank stupidity to continue with mahmood during the powerplay. If it's not enough having 3 out of 5 bowlers ot of their depth, we have a captain who doesn't know his **** from his elbow. I've said it before, but we've missed out big time by writing off Tresco as captain after his Indian jaunt.

Top work, Cricinfo.

Credit where credit's due....
Haha, you've gotta love their originality.

This is ridiculous from England. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see both Bell and Pietersen bowl a bit by the end of this innings.

EDIT: Apparently England are "as limp as lettuces" too.

They were dead right about Dalrymple's latest over as well. I'm sorry, but a spinner who sends down a wide an over shouldn't be playing, full stop.

OK, it's predictions time. SL are currently 190 for 1 after 30, and my earlier comment about passing 350 is looking an absolute given. So how many are we looking at today? I'll go for 380.
