Apart from re-emphasising how unbelievably bad we are at the batting powerplay, there's an interesting demonstration of our inability to think on the spot, compared to SL. In the last game, when Anderson was creating carnage with the new ball, SL sent in Randiv ahead of Matthews to protect the latter and give themselves at least a small chance of setting a target. OK, it didn't work because Matthews didn't get as many as he might have and our openers weren't troubled, but it showed the ability to think rather than play the game by numbers. Today, having lost the first wicket at the start of the power play, surely Trott was not the man to send in at 87 for 1 and the fielding restrictions in place. Morgan, or even Swann, could have had much more of a dart with the field in. But that would have required the ability to think, of course.
