At the same time there needs to be a degree of consistency in selection and dumping a guy who played all 6 Tests the previous summer and who did reasonably, as well as tour Australia as the back up batsman, for a guy who was dumped 2 years ago for being painfully **** and who hasn't exactly put forward a compelling case for selection since would be mad. From a selectors point of view, if there is a place up for offer, in their mind and in my mind also, you should be showing everyone, how good your form is in first class cricket and how committed you are to getting the test place. It's not about, whether someone plays in the in the IPL,which wouldn't be bad, if you were sure of your place and had a record to back it up. It's about earning your place, over time and showing everyone what you can do, especially when there are 2 or 3 others with much better records than him.
I agree and for me, Bopara isn't the answer, or even the question for that matter, just replying to that quote someone left. Like I said, like Howe said, unless he got the nod, before he went off to the IPL, I'd have liked Morgan personally, to have been staking his claim in CC and showing everyone that he is the man , no question. Obviously he came and delivered in his one chance he had, but it could have gone very wrong for him, so why take that chance, like he may have done. Like others have said in the past, do you pick him off the back of that one inning. I like Morgan, I hope he kicks on in Test cricket and becomes a regular but there is something that tells me, he might not.At the same time there needs to be a degree of consistency in selection and dumping a guy who played all 6 Tests the previous summer and who did reasonably, as well as tour Australia as the back up batsman, for a guy who was dumped 2 years ago for being painfully **** and who hasn't exactly put forward a compelling case for selection since would be mad.
Howe already beat you to it mate, but it is a
Fine work.
The opener struggled to score a run in Colombo, but has already made a bold statement this summer against the tourists with his 151 for Middlesex on the opening day of the tour.
