Pleasantly surprised to see no one in this thread moaning about the nature of one-day cricket and blaming the England batsmen for it. The guardian OBO is having a good stab at that.

Cook's first half century since June last year in ODi's about to come up. How's he still playing in this form of the game?

Wow. The ball is really sticking in the pitch. Don't think it's going to get any easier either. Ravi could be a handful on here later on.

He's barely played many ODIs in that time. NZ, Champions Trophy and thats it.

Even so. Last 12 months, he's played 16 matches, making 438 runs at 31.28, and striking at 76, with 2 half centuries. Take out a 44 he scored against Scotland, and his average drops to 30, SR to 75. It's not good enough.

Morgan's done enough in the past to get away with it, he's been our best OD batsman for years. Cook's never been a great One Day player, and never will be.

Sri Lanka's disrespect to the Umpires so far today has been embarrassing. Sanga + Dilshan should be ashamed of themselves.

Because he's captain and has built up a lot of credit in the past. It's hardly the worst record when you consider he's missed a lot of games in that time.

Also, Morgan has 613 runs at 36.05, and striking at 88.84 with a century and 4 half centuries in 19 innings against Test playing nations in the last 12 months. Way better than Cook.

Constantly querying the umpires wide decisions, and decision not to review run outs that were clearly correct decisions. Experienced players trying to influence inexperienced umpires. Its very poor.
it's called sportsmanship.. every team does this.

I have Morgan's numbers at 34 at that time, but still its a pretty immaterial difference given the difference in games played.

5 runs an innings better, at a significantly better strike rate makes him a much more valuable player. I just don't think Cook is good enough to be opening the batting in One Day cricket. If he's only in because he's the captain, then the solution seems pretty simple, get a better captain. Not like he's a modern day Mike Brearley. Average OD batsman, average captain.
