I can't find the test squad (not sure if it's been announced?) but from what we've seen in the UAE and Bangladesh Dilruwan Perera is our second spinner and Mendis is behind him in the pecking order, so this shouldn't affect the tests
I couldn't find it either which made me wonder - would imagine that having to go for testing in the next 3 weeks I guess he definitely won't be in that squad?

SLC has expressed surprise at the umpires' report in a, because "Sachithra had over the past 2 years played many bilateral/ ICC tournaments and four earlier games in the current tour without any hint of suspicion." Their release also said the board "has no option but to adhere to the laid down process" prescribed by the ICC.
This is probably what YorksLanka was getting at, mind you, if his action is found to be illegal or very close to the limit then credit to the umps.

His action has looked pretty dodgy throughout his career but it may have gotten worse, hard to tell, personally it would surprise me if he was found to be illegal

Yeah, of course eyesight isn't enough to convict him of being a chucker, but it's a decent enough screening process to go "hey, this guy might be worthwhile testing". Dodgy action = you get tested. Getting tested =/= chucker. A guy like Murali is the prime example -- his action looked pretty bloody strange and elbow-heavy, so he got tested. Well it would be the prime example if the law weren't changed to accommodate Murali because they realised how unworkable the original law was; that's where most of the controversy seems to stem from IMO.
Didn't they find that bowlers like McGrath and Pollock were breaking the existing law (10 degrees+ straightening)? I think they changed the law to accomodate all bowlers..

Yep, we've had that discussion quite a few times on CW

Based on what I saw during the series, he might be throwing the "effort spin" ball (similar to Shillingford/Samuels).. but that's based on the naked eye of course.

Is Sena allowed to play the Tests now or is it just that the SLC won't do it because it looks bad?

He'd be allowed to play until the 21 days is up, during which he has to fly to Perth and get tested, he wouldn't have played anyway because we won't pick two spinners in either test presumably and because he's slipped down the test spin-bowling pecking order below both Dilruwan Perera and Ajantha Mendis by the looks of it

Sri Lanka in England 2014 : Lakmal out of Test squad; Welegedara recalled | Cricket News | England v Sri Lanka | ESPN Cricinfo

Looks like the test squad just got announced, really disappointed to see Lakmal unable to play, I was really keen to see how he'd go, wonder who the 3rd seamer will be now - looks like Kula and Eranga will play, kinda hoping Welegedara goes straight into the side now looking at the other options tbh
personally as i have said before, i am not a fan of Welegedara and think that the pace bowlers should be Eranga, Prasad,Kula and Pradeep..lets see, but i think the fact that he is a leftie will get him a place, probably ahead of Pradeep...i know that will make you happy Maximas as you rate him dont you..

Honestly SL's strength is spin - I would rather have just Kula, Eranga, Herath, Mendis with Mathews playing a bigger role (since he would get more help from the surface for his medium pace). Just playing Welegedara for the sake of playing 3 fast bowlers is pointless imo - SL should stick to what has worked.

Prasad bowls a four-ball every over, just not good enough at test level, and god knows what Prapeed will bowl, at least with Welegedara you have an attacking bowler who can run through good batting line-ups in their own conditions at his best, and yeah, being a leftie helps, I'm also convinced he's the best exponent of reverse tang we have in our ranks.

Since when did Mendis in England work? Even Herath in England didn't really work last time

I was very impressed with Prasad's bowling at the odi in Durham-granted that is limited overs and this is tests we are talking about, but he bowled with good pace and decent line and length. We need at least one bowler in tests who is more than military medium hence why i wanted Prasad and Pradeep personally..Yes Welegedara has more control but i feel that he will easily be picked off by the English batsmen due to his lack of pace.

Prasad looked straight up and down to me. I agree with Max, Mendis ain't taking wickets in a test in England. Just pick blokes who move the ball, that's all you need over here.

Unless Kula/Eranga/Welegedara get a very helpful pitch (I would be worried about our batting in that case), Herath is still our best bowling option. He can run through Eng's line-up with some pitch assistance.

And agreed after the last ODI I didn't see enough to warrant Mendis bowling in Tests.
