Always great when someone makes his first test match 100. Doubly so given the situation and then the way he reached three figures.
Luckily I missed the afternoon collapse, so I don't know how the pitch changed from a turgid road to something more interesting. Or whether it swung under the cloud cover. Or whether England just did what the do best and collapsed like a pack of cards.

Tomorrow should now be quite a day's cricket. Perhaps our openers can show up and do their job at the start of the SL innings.

just finished watching highlights and must say, well done Ballance, very good ton..also follwoing on from previuos posts about the jordan bouncer to pradeep, i noticed in the highlights that CJ actually checked to see if pradeep was ok both at the time and as they walked off so certainly nothing malicious in it.. i was impressed with our "county line up" bowlers too, did a decent job...also forgot, congrats to Angelo on a great first ton at Lords, hopefully the first of many more..

Good to see Eranga come good, I thought he might enjoy English conditions, Herath is all class as usual. Bit of a shame we couldn't press on and bowl England out with a lead of under 300 but once again their batting depth thwarted us, Ballance played rather well too. I don't think we'll go near the target, but I'm hoping we get a rather dull final day as we bat out and lose 4 or 5 wickets at most.

Pradeep's dismissal is one of the funniest things i've seen in a long time. On a more serious note, Ballance's ton looked like that of a seasoned test veteran. Only seen highlights but it looked a good, mature innings.

Ballance you hero - second Test at Lord's, bringing it up with a 6 and in a situation where it was genuinely needed (for the first 50 odd at least). Go awnnn.

Warne and Botham spend half their time talking about negative field placements/bowling, and the other half talking about other sports. Won't be long till Botham brings up S****horpe. Terrible combination.

Love how the 'Cook is the world's most negative man' brigade always ignore how negative Broad, Anderson and Swann are/were. Total pussbags terrified of giving away runs.

Karunaratne has always looked like he could be a good player for me. He's had the misfortune to come up against some really good bowling attacks early in his career.

He's really good to watch. Lovely flowing bat, good on the drive, just needs to stop falling across his stumps to the in-swinger. Looks a good player though.

yeah. He's been out LBW a couple of times to the inswinger. Southee got him - which of course then makes him vulnerable to the one going across him too.

Something that can be fixed.

Anyway, Kaushal Silva needs to start pulling those short balls. Honestly, they're long hops. Rubbish bowling - I guess he's safer if he just lets them bowl it.

Jinxed him. Good start for England, needed an early wicket. Sanga and Mahela obviously the big wickets though, they're the only chance Sri Lanka have.
