Mathews is a big unit and is strong as an Ox. Definietly in Yusuf Pathan, Afridi or Symonds mould with strength. He can bowl quick, and has touched 140k before getting injured. Either he should revert to 120-125k stuff of L&L and bowl 25-30 overs in a test innings, hence allowing two genuinely quick bowlers line Eranga, Prasad or Pradeep to be played in the team. Or he should bowl short sharp spells, with aggressive lines, giving his all, so a proper L&L bowler like Kule can be played. ATM he is doing neither.

Well he makes the side as a batsman, and does a bit of a Shane Watson when he bowls, often bringing himself on to break a partnership or to bowl a tight spell to try and apply some pressure, I've always thought of him as a pretty nippy bowler at medium pace who could play nothing more than a support role with the ball, because of injuries and whatever he's struggled to find his identity as an international bowler, but I think the supporting line/length role is for him, I also don't think his role as a bowler should have too much bearing on the balance of the attack given that he probably shouldn't ever bowl too many overs

Next game.

SL will bat first and will post a score of 19 all out.

Bangladesh chasing will be 14/2 and later be 17/7 and will end with being all out for 18

SL will win by 1 run.

Well, we want a Kallis out of him. Either should average 50 with the bat if he's lazy to bowl quick, or average 40 with the bat and the ball to be considered as an all rounder. Averaging 70 with 7-8 overs per innings is piss poor by any standards. FFS even Aravinda and Jayasuriya bowled marathon spells when required because they were so fit and dedicated. ATM Mathews is worse than Aravinda and Jayasuriya as a test bowler. In the real context he has most bowling potential than Jaya or Aravinda, but lack the commitment that two former giants had.

lacks the commitment? I always thought it was the injuries that worried him, I'm hoping his batting average will stay around 45 (although I'd be delighted if it got to 50) throughout his career while as he bowls more and more he becomes a Shane Watson like bowler and his average falls below 50. I'd say he's much more likely to become a Kallis batting all-rounder (although not as good in all likelihood) than a genuine all-rounder.

dont forget he has to captain as well guys so thats a lot to be going on with..i would rather see him injury free and bowling short tight spels to apply pressure , than being out injured due to bowling quick..

yet another failure for Chandimal..he is becoming a liability..shame as he certainly has the talent as he showed when he started playing at this level but as many have done, is just going through a poor patch of form.. also imho, mathews is batting too low at #7 and should be coming in at 5 as the middle order is too inexperienced..

Pretty much my view

Chandimal should be persisted with IMO, although his form in Asia has been poor he has shown on his last few international tours particularly to Australia that he can be very effective in those conditions in both tests and ODIs, something worth keeping in mind with the WC approaching

3rd umpire trolled by pressing the wrong button a while ago too, imagine the disappointed when everyone realises he's not actually out

Never watch matches in Bangladesh with sound, no exceptions
The fact that watching matches in Bangladesh as an act by its very nature usually means the sound quality is low, regardless of the commentary standards, adds weight to this idea.
