Nah you've been brain washed by the commentators. It works far more times than it doesn't, especially when you have a very poor #11 there. You never hear about when it works because its no big deal, but the times when it doesn't work you get a prolonged discussion about it. More often than not, when it doesn't work it's because the bowlers can't bowl to the plan.
Can you point me to where the commentators were critical today?

Nope

Anyway, if you were happy with the tactics today, that says it all

Difference is, they take singles during the middle of an ODI. If you tell batsmen they can't take a single out of the powerplay in an ODI, they'd get out IMO.
nah the difference here is there was no urgency for chandi to score runs at any pace. wouldnt matter if he took 3 sessions going at 1 an over, his game was to protect n00fan prads, and just grab 2's and 4's when he could

Commentators are always critical of those tactics, you've clearly been listening to Chappell go on about it for years and thought you'd jump on it. Benaud said something during the lunch break.

There's a reason why captains all over the globe employ the tactic in those situations. You can thump your chest and say we should be getting both of them out!!!! But it's to the detriment of the team to allow easy boundaries at that point in the innings when you don't need to get both out.

It's always weird though when they treat a batsman as undismissable just because he's a recognised batsman. For e.g. Chandimal admirable as he is in terms of SL's future and what he did a year ago, wasn't considered as good enough to play in the first two tests.

If they weren't trying to get him out, they wouldn't have had any slips in.

This is deadset one of the strangest fields I've ever seen.
Thought so many back was a bit weird myself. Australia to get there in singles at this rate.

Edit: I hadn't seen the latest incarnation for the spinner...it's more than slightly bizarre.

Was also talking in general. There have been countless times when this has happened. A classic example was when McGrath 'nursed' Hussey to his ton against SA. Hussey was dropped on 28 by Kallis just after the #11 had arrived at the wicket and yet SA treated him as if he was undismissable and basically totally spread the field for him. They didn't change tactics either.

Dilshan wants to review when Clarke dances down the pitch?

Such a poor judge of an appeal.
They could have had him for nought in the first innings if they knew how to review.

What a poor player of spin Cowan is! Even though India's spinners aren't great, they'll surely embarrass him.
