I'm not saying he will play at Sydney, especially given the series is already over, for fear that he could damage it further. I'm saying that if it was his last game... Or last game of an ashes series and they were going to replace him with a specialist bat, there'd be a case for him to still being selected. He flogged 80-odd at Jo'burg after doing his calf and didn't play for two and a half months, though. If his history is any guide, there's no way he'll play Sydney.
There are, but I think it deserves its own thread.I'm not saying he will play at Sydney, especially given the series is already over, for fear that he could damage it further. There are other factors to be taken into account though.
Quite probably, given you say they did about as well as they could today yet the main reason we're "only" 8/440 is because of some rank stupid strokeplay.I say this with all due respect... But is Sri Lanka's attack for this test the worst attack we've seen play on Boxing Day at the MCG?
Sangakarra averages 47 away from home. When not designated keeper he averages 55 (from 27 matches). His overall figures only suffer in comparison to his home record, not against any other players. He's rubbish in England, of course, but that's to be expected...yes but being better than Mahela away from home is not particularly hard. If you scrutinise Sangakkara's and say, Sehwag's/Hussey's/Hayden's records closely, you'll not find them too dissimilar. For some reason though, people are happy to gloss over Sangakkara's less than stellar away record but continually pick on the latter 3.
Pretty sure Saj Mahmood played Boxing Day in 06/07.I say this with all due respect... But is Sri Lanka's attack for this test the worst attack we've seen play on Boxing Day at the MCG?
Nah, we had Zaheer and Yadav who bowled well for us in the boxing day test last year. We were even in a position where we could've won, chasing a bit above 300 iirc.Pretty neck and neck with India from last year I'd say.
Good post, but you can be sure that he - or some similarly ill-informed poster - will be found maligning Sanga's 'poor away record' a few pages hence. It kinda goes with the territory: he's clearly the best batsman, so SL's ongoing and seemingly unaccountable struggles away from home must be at least partly his fault. I'm hoping Sanga can silence the critics with some good performances in his remaining innings, although the prospect of saving this Test is already looking a very long shot.Sangakarra averages 47 away from home.
