Yeah, bottom line is, they deserved to win and it was an awesome match, even if the way we played at times leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth.

Wasn't it great to see some ebb and flow, some cut and thrust, some thrust and parry, in a limited overs form of the game.

Last night's epic was something you would never get in the sawn-off T20 format.

Walked outside Rebel Sports in Garden City today and noticed a very familiar face sitting casually with one leg crossed one of the sofas fiddling one his mobile phone. It was none other than one Lasith Malinga.

As you guys know, Malinga's curly tips and eyebrow rings are a dead giveaway, but for some absurd reason I decided to walk past him stop, turnaround, walk back and stammer "Hey, are you Malinga?"" "Yeah" Awkward Pause. Knowing nothing bout the current tour - I stupidly said "Are you in Perth for the ODI's?". "T20" Awkward Pause. I decided to shake his hand wish him good luck and shuffled away.

God damn, he must have thought I was a deadset weirdo. He seemed a bit standoffish but very soft spoken.
I'd like to think I have played my part in Malinga's blitzkrieg

Most people feel that way about T20, but I think there is still ample opportunity in that format for ebbs and flows. It just happens to be that the ebbs and flows occur more erratically, and are less structured than in ODIs.

SL needs some cleanup job in their playing XI. Tharanga has been a disgrace. On flat SCG Kulasekara is of no use. Although Mendis ads value with his leg breaks on SCG, without Silva, batting would be too brittle. My XI for SCG would be, Dilshan, Jayawardane, Sangakkara, Chandimal, Silva, Mathews, Randiv, Perera, Malinga, Murali, Fernando.

Randiv is a much better all round batsman than Perera. Sbould ahve come before Perera i the last match. If the pitch is really spinning Dilshan also can join the fun.

If Kulasekara can bowl yorkers as well as yesterday then I wouldn't say he's completely useless.

The problem has occured due to Mathew's injury. Usually he takes up the ball 1st change and bowl with admirable control and movement. On Brisbane track, a fit Mathews would be a real handful because of the seam he gets. And overall, full fit Mathews is mid 130 bowler, little quicker than Kulasekara. Mathes did hit 140 about a year back but few injuries have pushed down to late 120s.

Does anyone else actually like Nuwan Kulasekara? I am a big fan, he suffers from an unfair reputation. A smart bowler can succeed despite a lack of pace, and I don't think many limited over bowlers are more canny than Kulasekara. He appears to be a very good judge of the situation of the game and is a vital attribute of a succesful Sri Lankan team.

Broken record now, but after yesterday, his ability to bowl a good yorker on demand puts him quite high in my estimation.

Agree. 1/60 looks like a poor game, but most bowlers would have ended with 1/80 given few could bowl a yorker like Kulasekara.

Being serious,i see on Cricinfo that the weather may intervene in the 2nd game, would that have a bearing on the side Australia may pick, may end up a shortened game and would Hastings be suited to that etc.....

I've looked at a more detailed forecast and it looks like morning showers. Maybe a delayed start but I'd say there's a good chance of full overs. Plus in Australia, "chance of showers" and showers actually happening don't always concur...

...although someone who actually lives in Sydney and not 300km away and hence has a "feel" for the weather of the area will be able to tell better.
