haha yeh fair call. Although for mere eye candy it was an excellent idea.

But anyway, I spose that could explain the discrepency between his test and odi averages then? Wicket keeping in odis, that is...
Sangakarra has a terrible ODI record without the gloves.

A quick statsguru search shows KS Without Gloves. That was a number of years ago though.

Watson looks so green as a bowler. His action is so forced, and he has no momentum to the wicket. It has been happening from the start of the India tour. I reckon he is masking some slight injury worries.
Yeah, really messes with the balance of the team if he can't be relied upon to get through his overs, too. I don't want to see Hopes at seven or Smith having to bowl ten overs in the World Cup - his bowling fitness is so, so vital to the team.

Look at his bowling action in this video:
YouTube - Chappell/Hadlee Trophy Game 3 2nd innings Final 5 Overs Pt1

You have to fast-forward it to about 1:05 before he's sighted but I almost mistook him for Lee when I saw it the other day. I know he's changed his action to manage his body a bit better since then but I never quite realised just how different it was. That was the Watson who was such a good ODI bowler (except in that series :p) - we might have to rethink what the one we have now is going to do with the ball and pick a better bowler than Smith to bat seven.

Could Hastings be an option? Heard him talked about as an all-rounder, but haven't seen enough of him to judge for myself.

Not good enough to bat seven IMO. Batted below Johnson in this game which shows what the selectors think of his batting (really can't imagine how he gets picked if they don't think he's good enough to bat eight, but anyway..). More suited to batting eight than Hopes but is just a hitter, really.

The action of Watson has changed so many times over his career, and this current model looks the worst of all. It looks like the action of someone trying to protect a back injury. Everyone wants Watson to stay fit, but it highlights the delicate situation we are in regarding Watson's fitness.

If Hastings as a batsman could average perhaps 5 runs more, he would make a good 5th bowler and batting from 7. But his current batting talent means he has to play as a frontline bowler.

First time in his career he's got any swing, and unsurprisingly it made him really effective in the Tests in England. It's made him a part-timer in ODIs though IMO.

To be fair to Watto, the poor bloke's had horrific back troubles since forever. Not many blokes have stress fractures every year or two from 14 onwards and keep running in. Must get sick of re-modelling his action every season.

If Hastings isn't at least batting ahead of Johnson he shouldn't be anywhere near the team IMO. I'd personally bat him ahead of Johnson but if the selectors aren't, there's not enough to his bowling for someone who's batting nine.

Yeah, if this is what it takes to stop him getting injured without giving up bowling, then this is what it takes. Not blaming him; just saying we might need to re-evaluate the balance of the team if he's going to bowl pies.

To be fair though he's looked much better from his second over onwards - that ball got through at 137 clicks.

Twatto hasn't had an injury since the Indian tour of 2008 though has he? He's been fit for two years now right?

Major injury, yeah. Always going to have niggles though and he definitely looks as if he's carrying.

They appear to manage his bowling workload much better though than in the past. If Watson plays a big innings, he will rarely bowl more than a couple of overs.
