Strange things happen with WI, but I can’t see them being in a position to actually chase this down. I do fancy them to be competitive and hopefully make a real fist of batting the day out but will take an unbelievable effort to get into a position to win it.

No idea what Brathwaite's plan was there. He's defended his wicket and then takes a rush of blood and loses it.
That looked like a muddled mind to me. He wanted to be positive after getting himself stuck in a rut and he just went about it in completely the wrong way. That could be a match losing shot, this is a tough ask on the newbies.

I’m not sure batting too slow is his primary issue, it’s averaging 24,16 and 23 in Test cricket from season 2018-2020. His career strike rate is a tick above 40 which is slow going when compared to Cheteshwar Pujara who has a higher strike rate of just under 45, but it sounds really obvious in that he just Isn’t getting in and scoring serious match contributions. Since his last century against Bangladesh back in July 2018 he’s had 37 innings (including current overnight innings and a 5 not out) and been dismissed for 20 or under in 26 of those innings! The most deliveries he faced in those innings (of 20 runs or less) is 68 so he isn’t wasting time or deliveries, in fact he needs to spend much more time out there and get himself established at the crease.
He scored 246 against NZA in Queenstown in November and was seen as a threat heading into the test matches but struggled.

Half an hour until tea. Add another 40 for no loss before then and it'll leave under 200 to go for in the last session at about 6 rpo with 8 wickets in hand? Worth a go?

Sri Lanka been too disciplined, and they have a new ball soon. Flat surface but isn’t true enough to start hitting through the line regardless and the outfield is slow.

Hard new ball also often means quick runs .
The longer two batsman spend at the crease the quicker they will naturally score. I think that has started happening the last twenty mins. I think they have an eye on the target now

Not happening mate. Target is way too steep.

Not to be all over rates because it's been fairly gripping stuff and deserves a draw after the pitch dried out but we're gonna end up somewhere around 420 here for the whole game aren't we
