I blame Kallis for being their best batsman and converting all the youngsters into boring players.

Looks like the predictions he would struggle in South Africa were correct :D

That Kallis is rubbish. Incidentally, following yet another innings from Gibbs, I looked up the leading run scorers in ODIs this year. Gibbs was actually 3rd behind Youhana and Kallis (who've also been in amazing form!), but the interesting thing was Australia - nobody near the top 10. They had Ponting 14th I think, but his average was pretty ordinary (34 from memory), then Hayden was 16th. His average was 50+, which is obviously good, but otherwise, they had a couple of players just outside the top 20 (Martyn and Gilchrist, whose averages were very ordinary to say the least - Gillys was like 27), so Australia have only 1 batsman who has been in great ODI form this year, if that isn't promising heading into the World Cup, I don't know what is!

Of course, we'll have to wait for the VB series to see how accurate a prediction this is, but like I say it's a good sign...:D

There's always a positive way to look at things :)
Unfortunately P11 W8 vs South Africa suggests otherwise :P
However, AA is seventh on the most wickets list with 38, so that shows how anything can be proved with good old statistics!
Unfortunately his ER is 5.28, down in, well, a long way down.

Anyway, that ought to be in a different thread...

As for Pakistan,
South Africa A 206-6 (50 overs)
Rudolph 95, Cullinan 47
Sami 0-29, Waqar 2-43, Razzaq 3-52
Pakistan 158-7 (28.4 overs) - Target 157 from 29: D/L
Iqbal 59, Razzaq 24, Rashid 21 (16), Inzi 23 (16) coming in at 8!
Elworthy 2-19, Langeveldt 2-20

Perhaps the Aussies are so low because they've played a lot less ODI cricket tha other nations this year?

Anyone have any Idea where English players are in the ODI ratings? Just out of interist.

I wonder what Pybus saw in Elahi? Elahi was always a bad bad choice, he's only in the team because of Pybus and he will be a big failure against the Afrikans!

In memory of the career of Elahi:

"It was a good international career, it was a short international career. He had all the makings of a great batsman until you actually saw him bat. His career looked so promising until he met the mediocre opposition in SA."

Well, I know someone who must be happy. Here's a hint: his name starts with 'An' and ends with 'war'

A recall for Saeed?
Saeed is expected to announce retirement from International cricket in a week or so. He has been dejected lately on being dropped from the team by the seletors , but he himself is partly to be blamed for it.Lately he has been a shadow of a player he once was , and he did nothing to convince the selectors that he can still be good to the team.During all these time he didn't play any domestic match, getting depressed and hoping against hope gets you nowhere. He should have taken lesson from Steven Waugh who still plans to fight back and get into the team even though he isn't even in the 30 player pool announced for the WC!

Well even though Elahi is an ordinary player and will go though a hard time in SA, still i don't think he will be able to break the record for most ducks in test cricket held by AA!!!
But then Ajit can bowl ( regardless of how well he does) and Elahi can't,so what can you really do Mr Elahi??

Well an Aussie Selector (I think it was Border) said that it was time to change, that is why they dropped Steve Waugh...and also he sounded out that Steve was basically out of their thoughts as far as the ODI squad was concerned. Also Boarder (and I'm sure it was he this time) said that he expected Waugh to retire after the Ashes as his "time had come" but interistingly Waugh has made comments that he has no interist in retiring yet...

You never know, Elahi may well be a better bowler than Agarkar. It really can't be that hard!

Well not massively -

33 Pakistan/India
32 South Africa
29 New Zealand
28 Sri Lanka
26 Australia
23 West Indies
20 England
14 Bangladesh
12 Zimbabwe

Ponting, Gilchrist and Martyn have played 25 games, compared with the top 2 Youhana 27 and Kallis 28. Gayle has played 23 games and appears 5th on the list. Sarwan, Trescothick and Tendulkar have all played 20 games and are above Ponting (highest Aussie). Further down the list, Bevan averages 35, Maher 38, Watson 33 and Waugh 31, Mark Waugh just 21. England have Tres 13th (846@42) - other than that not much to shout about, but that should change after the VB series when we catch up a bit in terms of games played.

I'll check out the wickets list as it was mentioned in reference to AA, and I would expect it to show strength for 'straaaaalia.

Well as expected you have Pollock, Waqar and then the less played McGrath (41@16 from 23), Gillespie 6th (38@20 from 20), Lee 12th (32@21 from 17), though Warne has been very ordinary (23@35 from 22). Darren Gough is actually England's highest placed bowler with 27@26 from 17. They have used alot of different players this year remember. Murali has 30@12 from 17!
