I think he still is an exceptional player. Too bad he doesn't seem to think he is nor does PCB.

Ranking Team Pld Points Rating
1 Australia 27 3465 128
2 South Africa 42 5134 122
3 Pakistan 37 4302 116
4 Sri Lanka 39 4477 115
5 India 38 3929 103
6 West Indies 31 3073 99
7 England 21 2014 96
8 New Zealand 31 2832 91
9 Zimbabwe 33 2169 66
10 Kenya 12 263 22
11 Bangladesh 15 146 10

This is how the teams stand as of now in the ICC ODI ranking. Sri Lanka dropped to 4th place becuase of the loss tto SA and Pakistan was able to jump up th ladder due to the clean seep in Zimbabwe. This is however the real battle now. This will prove who is the better performer of the two....I believe SA will get an edge against Pakistan, but I am willing to say that the Test Series will be a close affair.

This rating (except NZ perhaps) is the standing of the Sides IMO. As far as One day cricket is concerned.

And what a clown the guy is, i wonder from did Pakistan find this batsman(if we can call him one) surely he must be the most pathetic cricketer in the history of International cricket:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Why r u all criticizing Elahi so much? Agreed he doesn't have the right technique but he is not as bad as u r portraying them to be. I remember him playing well in Eng in the oneday series couple of years back and scored a 70 odd in one match against Aus which most other batsman are not being able to do. Also Agarkar is not that bad. He has won many matches for Inda. In every 3 or more wickets hauls he took 90 % of the time India have won those. Agreed he has many really bad days. Also nobody said that he is a great allrounder. He was said to be a useful batsman and could become an allrounder if he works on his batting a bit which he didn't and maybe doing now. He has won more matches than most other bowlers in the world today.

Yes, exceptional bowling by Wasim today. Never looked like the bowler who is past it !
Waqar after getting the stick of his life manages to churn wicket no. 400...going down that list of all time wicket takers, these two are way ahead of the rest.

Pakistan gave it away today. At half time it looked like SA would hardly get 220. In the end they get to 272. Razzaq bowled the worst I have seen him do (maybe coming back from injury) Sami was very impressive but he too bowled a lot of bad deliviries that were put away to the fence. Rhodes played a fine typical innings and gave SA the momentum they needed. Pakistan have lost Taufeeq and the very prolific Youhana. Inzi and Elahi at the crease. Oh.....and Inzi is gone as well :(! this one's gone for my money !

Before counting Elahi out we should see how he performs in SA, relative to other batsmen.

And I echo VRs sentiments about Agarkar. He is not that bad. But his criticism here is more out of fun then being based on fact.

No it's stems from his century in a meaningless situation at Lords, which propelled him into the ranks of the greats if you believe some board members of the time!

Nah, his batting was praised and indeed it was a fairly decent knock (whatever the situation) though against a very ordinary attack! But he wasn't hailed as the best allrounder as you were claiming!

I'll have to dig out that thread for you all then...

Saleem didn't do too badly today, top scorer wasn't he?! :)

Pollock 9.5-3-12-3 or something :O

Pakistan batting flopped badly today, and even though Elahi was the top scorer with 35, it were the slow innings by both the openers that resulted in added pressure on the middle order and the batting simply collapsed.

Razzak was totally offcolor, probably his worst ever spell, Sami was expensive too.Pakistan got to replace the opening pair of Elahi and Umer with some other openers, otherwise their batting is always going to struggle!

How exactle was he impressive then? I'm confused.

He's a new comer to this squad and still quite young, so bad deliveries are a part and parcel of such inexperience, however he was generating good pace and troubling the batsmen. Yet he kept losing that line and length.

Pakistan were pitiful. Wasim was the only guy who turned up, bowling tightly and taking wickets, plus a couple of sixes at the end when the cause was lost.

Once again I state - this is why subcontinental teams will struggle in the World Cup. Pakistan were supposed to be the best equipped to cope, yet they couldn't hit Pollock of the square it would seem...

No but bare Wasim the Pakistanis were going for 6+ runs an over. Pakistan needed to score quickly, and dominate the bowlers. Instead Pollock bowled 10 overs for 12.
