Is Hagley one of those NZ roads that evolve into even roadier roads as the match progresses? Hyped regardless

I know SA have had zero prep, but $3.80 looks like juicy odds given KW and Boult’s absence and KJ looking out of sorts this summer.
I'm not sure many players in the blackcaps have had much better prep either, that does look a good bet. Unfortuantely I think this first test will go the same way as the first test against Bangladesh, particularly if we are sent in.

It's the one NZ take all the Asian sidesto because it looks scarier than it is, bounces and carries like a dream and doesn't turn a millimeter.

Good chance of some pace bowling porn this week.

Huge toss to win. Someone on cricinfo wrote we haven't lost a test at home when we've won the toss since 2009.

After the WTC final I didn't know if CDG would play another test, so well done to him. Could be very useful. If Mitchell (6th bowler) has to bowl, it would mean that we've performed badly.

Need them out for a sub 250 score and then go big tomorrow.

After a meandering mostly cricketless summer it's great to have this start today. Still grumblings that this, the main course, is only two tests, but doesn't dampen the enthusiasm for the first ball bowled.

Welcome back CDG .

(as this topic is a hobby-horse of mine)

This the innings that NZ's top 7 have had since the date of the last test finishing 6 weeks ago:
(Yellow boxes, are innings which were non-T20)
(Purple box if the innings was red-ball)

31 innings by 7 players over 6 weeks. (of which 22 of them were T20 innings)

Nice to see Spark Sport offering the option to watch with ACC commentary. Admittedly my enthusiasm for the ACC has waned over the past 5 years, but it's nice for a change every now and then.

Pleased to see Henry hitting high 130s and even touched 140 just then - like everyone I'm ambivalent about his presence in the side but the difference between Henry at 130km/h and Henry at high 130s is enormous, so pleased to see the latter.

We'll probably see the former later with the older ball, which is the real problem.

Two things gone our way, winning the toss and getting Elgar out early. That's a big win for us. Elgar can bat for a long duration if he gets in.
