love how calm santa always is. didn't even flinch at philanders faux throw
Yeah Santa looks to have a great head on his shoulders. Definitely think we should be developing him long term. He is already a solid #8 and containing spinner, if we can get any more out of him that'd be gun.

No point picking players that aren't good enough yet. He is suited to odi cricket, like latham is suited to tests. Let him concentrate on odis and pick a spinner instead of a bits and pieces project for test cricket.

who is this mythical spinner you speak of

jeets is the best "proper" spinner we have. He's 35. And he's proven himself over and over to be no better than santa.

27 with the bat and 39 with the ball is good enough to be the front-runner in the spin department, though. Sodhi's shown progress so he might be an option down the road, but I'm happy with what Mitch's doing for the time being.

Sodhi and patel are both better than santner. That why santner doesn't bowl as many overs. He has been picked as a batting allrounder.

Ok, time to start accelerating now. Really need to push on at 3+ rpo for the rest of the session.

I have huge patience for defensively-minded batting in test cricket but this is testing me. Don't get Williamson slowing to a crawl

Rain Scheduled for the last session tomorrow. We need to pick it up, if we want to to win this, the most likely way is to bat once. Kane is fine chipping away, Santner is disposal, especially with CDG there. The situation is made for him, would be odd if they send Watling in next..

why then do patel and sodhi both average in the high 40s if they're better

wait anyone know if ajaz patel is a vegan? :detective:
Sodhi hasn't played tests for a while. He is a hugely improved bowler since his test debut and deserves a chance.

Patel doesn't take enough wickets, but santner is still 2nd fiddle to him and usually only bowls a lot in favourable conditions.

I am not a vegan . Cheers.

Doing it right, they need a 200 run lead if they can get one, can put foot down later when the bowlers tire more.
Bowlers have bowled 130 overs already tbh. They'll be pretty tired already.

Ah crap, KW gone. Had been looking a bit tired for the last few overs. Can't have Watling do a 30 (90) innings here, I would've sent CDG in.

There's a middle ground between just straight up blocking 90% of deliveries and #intent tbf.
Yep agreed.

Scoring 2rpo when you've been in for ages is just bad batting, intent or no intent.

On the other hand, #intent scares me because unless you're chasing 10rpo in a LO match, batting is generally still about not getting out. I feel like when people say **** like "hit out or get out, this situation is tailor-made for CdG" etc, they're forgetting that getting out is a thing, especially for a CdG-tier batsman against good bowling.

Aaaaaaand KW getting out now after doing all of the grind is pretty much the worst possible result
