i agree craig. except maybe chuck out flintoff and give ali a whirl. it could prove a good move, and you need to take risks.:)
It could also prove a disaster - which of Ali, Bicknell and Giles goes in at number 7?

South Africa 2/2! Smith and Gibbs both out! Smith was out through James Kirtley, 4th ball of the match for 2. Gibbs was out next over when he succomed to bicknell caught behing for a duck. what a start by the poms!:)

Kallis gone as well.

20-3 from 14 overs, was a good toss to lose.

Especially when you see the SA 9, 10, 11!

27-4 now - Kabir Ali picks up his first wicket in his first over.

As they say in the trade - "A good toss to lose"

Too much else for Vaughan to do to have to rely on him to bowl.
But he is a better bowler than Giles. Just b'coz he is the captain doesn't mean he shouldn't bowl. Pollock used to bowl and bat when he was the captain , same with Hooper and he had a weak side and so would have had even more responsibilty on him.

Yes, but Vaughan opens the batting, and has the pressure of being his teams only world class batsman.

Neither of the others mentioned do that.

Besides that, I would debate that he is necessarily a better bowler than Giles.

Is it true Flintoff said this ??

"I have always been rated to be more talented than Beefy,
not only as a quicker and sharper bowler, but with match winning performances
with the bat from time to time,my performance has improved since the Asian tours and I can claim to be the top allrounder in the world of cricket today"."I have the years to break all Botham records".

read that and I was a little supprised he certainly seem's to have a high opinion of himself.

Dale Kerrigan said in The Castle: "Tell him he is kidding".

I dont see how it is too much for him to bowl. If he cant handle the pressure or handle the job, he is the wrong person for the job.

Where on earth did you find that load of rubbish? Sounds a little like mischief-making to me.

The final session is proving the utter nonsense of going into a game with no variation in the attack.

I've seen it all so many times before - and it seems that England NEVER learn.

That gets the 2003 award for the most misleading statement, winky smiley or no.

The difference between England's 'samey' attack and that of the 1980's West Indies is that we have no-one the batsman wants to get away from - whereas they had no-one the batsman didn't mind facing.

I have said so many times (for the last 30 years at least) that you cannot EVER consider going into a test match without a strike bowler. The fact that I keep harping on about it doesn't necessarily make me right, but I just seem to keep getting proved correct time and time again.
