**Official** South Africa in England 2012

Just pinched this off someone on Twitter but he's dead right.

England reckon the sweep is a media obsession. Then Cook and Strauss refused to play it for about 40 overs in Colombo - and England won...

Pietersen and Prior these guys are attacking batsmen and not the sort that they will hang around; it's not in their nature. Don't know why people are blaming them so much

He'd played fine for ages up to that point without a silly sweep. Absolutely no need to play that shot. He knows it too.

Was that a drop by AB that I saw in the highlights?
Yeah he dropped Bell early on.

I have to say, the quality of bowling from South Africa in general in this second innings has been fantastic. The standard of the play in the first England innings was really quite poor from both sides - Steyn was patchy, Philander was down on pace and accuracy and Morkel was terrible despite taking a bag, and England's batsmen all individually decided to give their wickets away - but it's been a real high class display from South Africa's bowlers in this innings, even Tahir who I'm not a big fan of. They fully deserve to win here based on how much better than England they've been from Day 2 onwards.

Don't mind either player attacking and are probably better playing their natural game, defended KP before for it but man the ****ing sweep shot,

Slagging off the choice of shot on a wearing pitch, other ways to be attacking, Strauss was even more annoying TBF. Trott's dismissal's in both inning have been ghastly too. Just Prior is the latest one to slag off.

People often complain about naturally defensive batsmen not being able to up the ante when the match situation calls for it; it's the same thing here. Pietersen clearly didn't play to the situation at hand. I actually thought Prior's innings was excellent until that sweep; England still do need runs and he just played every ball on its merits with intent. That shot was just a brain explosion though and he knows it; the fact that he's a natural strokemaker doesn't in any way mitigate it though.

That's it, curtains.

Bell playing at a wide one swinging wider. Yet another donated wicket.

But well played to drag it out for as long as he did.

Well that is almost certainly the game, well played SA.

Only hope is if Broad and Swann go ballistic like they have done in the past and put on 150 in 20 overs and we fluke our way too far in front late on in the day.

Hey Spikey,
well I clearly would have kept Steyn on

well no, i would have bowled kallis

To just go back to AB keeping. Yep can't be too harsh, but there's a sense of irony in that this test will probably be the hardest one to keep in, yet he won't keep in the rest (although we all know the trouble swing past the stumps can cause, so maybe this won't be the hardest test to keep in)
