Don't think Marsh should be given a free ride in the limited overs format anymore. I'd like to see him there as much as anyone, but he hasn't looked great in a while.
I'd personally really hope that he wasn't dropped on the back of Twenty20 performances.

Reckon Marsh will come good. Looks to be in decent touch, just finding ways to get out. Hopefully not having to force the pace so much he can time an innnings.

Agree with White, not sure if I would go with Clarke, but no obvious replacement. It would be good if a few of the bowlers liked fielding in the slips..
You are saying this due to the grassed catch saga, or you generally don't rate Clarke in the slips, because imo he has been a pretty decent slip catcher, has taken some very good catches there, and in the current Aussie test side, he is quite comfortably the next best slip fielder after Ponting.

From what I've seen, Clarke's been just decent in the slips in his career.

Felt sorry for Warner last night, looked as though he just felt the pressure to repeat the dosage, rather than bat as he saw fit.

Clarke's just decent in slips, and I'd prefer him not to be there, mainly because he's such an awesome ground fieldsman patrolling around at cover or on the ropes near the end. Same problem with having Symonds in the slips, albeit Clarke's better as a slip than Symonds.

AWTA..

Marsh though now would have to pull up his sockses for the ODI games, otherwise he risks going back into the wilderness and again having to slug it out at the domestic level, with all these retirements having taken place, its a wonderful opportunity for Marsh to nail a place for himself in Australian team, he has all the makings of becoming a good reliable batsman, but it would be interesting to see whether he really has the disclpine and character to turn his potential into performance.

Clarke hasn't had to field in the slips much, has he, but apart from his debut series in India, i haven't seen him drop any catches in the slip cordon, but as Matt said he is superb at the point or cover region, with his ability to throw the sticks down with consistentcy and his agility, but i still i think Clarke is a relatively safe bet to be a part of the slip cordon, especially when one looks at the other options.

Warner could have felt the weight of expectations last night, but i don't think that changed his approach much though (which was nice to see), credit needs to be given to the South African tactic of using every bowler in one over spell and not letting Warner get a hang of any one bowler and they backed this with good ground fielding too.

Nah I'm saying this as I like his ground fielding just like Matt79 stated.

The problem is that there are not many other candidates.

Wish some of our bowlers liked slip fielding, it would speed up the over rates too.

BARNES OUT
I swear I remember a game a few years back where Clarke fielded first slip and grassed a few absolute sitters, in the same game Symmo fielded 3rd and dropped one or two as well.

No idea who it was againt, England 06 Ashes maybe.

Pretty sure it was the game Hayden missed that Rogers played, against India at home.

That SOB who used the laser - I hope someone smashes it and his face too, the next time he pulls it out. WTF man.

Hmm...I was just looking up some stats, and I've reached the conclusion that Kallis is the greatest cricketer of this generation, purely in terms of stats. Is there any other player more valuable to his team? He might not have won the hearts of people or piqued their interest in the same way that a Tendulkar or a Pietersen have, but boy is he the most consistent and (statistically) valuable member of an outfit!

Just a little post to celebrate the best cricketer of our time. :)

It's interesting you mention that, because Kallis is on the verge of becoming the only man to ever score 10000 runs and take 250 wickets (and he's going to do it in both Tests and ODIs), yet many people would hesitate to call him great. Even in South Africa he is immensely underrated and I believe this is all because he does not have a great cricketing personality. Sure, he didn't have an amazing year last year by his standards, but he is still one of the most consistent and capable all-rounders of all time.

TBF, I find it criminal that he isn't spoken in the same sense as a Sobers in the all-rounders argument.

Yep - along with Sobers, he's the greatest all-rounder the game has seen. A level above Imran, Botham, Hadlee and Kapil IMO.

I await the lynch-mob.
